How To Hit A DRAW With Your IRONS - Simple Method

In this video I am going to show you how to hit a draw with your irons using the most simple method that I know.

Hitting a draw with your irons can help increase distance, create a more solid strike, tighten dispersion or even be used to fix a slice or fade shot that you may be struggling with.

I discuss the set up, the downswing and the release which are all incredibly important when learning how to draw the irons.

I have watched many videos on draws, and finally someone who does it propper! None of that «aim to the right» if im gonna learn it, im gonna learn it right.

These are EXCELLENT points, my friend. I hit this shot all the time, to a back-left pin, or into the wind. I always just think “ keep my arms close to me, throughout the swing”. This promotes the outward swing path that I need. Then, I’ll turn into the ball, feeling like I’m “hooding” the club a little. Works like a charm! I can also hit a low push-cut using this same concept. I’ll set up aiming left, and hold the face off through impact. People have to learn these things through experimentation. Get your butt to the range, and play around with the extremes of path, ball position, and face. Try to hit every shot possible, and remember the “feelings” that it takes to hit those shots. You’ll learn much about your swing, by doing this. Golf will become a lot more fun.

wow this actually works hi Chris I'm 68 a 18 handicapper still quite nimble used your method of closing the face rather than turning my wrist never done this drill before but had great success yes there were quite a few that drew far too much but by moving the ball a little I started to find a position where I need to be at set up in relation to ball position which is exactly what you say, funny thing which surprised me and maybe theres an answer for this that those few and I mean few that I hit that didn't draw went as straight as an arrow. with more practice will get better

Setup info was great. I found that an in to out swing bottoms out earlier and never heard anyone address this

Had been putting the ball way forward in my stance and no amount of grip/face/swing change was helping me. Thank you so much 🥺

Hey Chris. For the first time in like a decade of playing golf, I was able to draw the golf ball at the range. Did this with my irons and driver. It wasnt all my shots but this tip really helped!

But I still tend to push the ball out to the right... When I try to release the club more, sometimes it works but sometimes it duck hooks.

Maybe my wrists are out of position?

Hey Chris. Another well-done lesson. My natural shape is a baby draw, so need you to do a lesson on hitting a fade. I cannot hit a fade to save my life!!

Interesting points on closing the club face. My instructor really just drilled into me bowing my wrist, DJ style. Bring it to the top, pause, look at my wrist flexion. Again and again.

The other was to strengthen my grip, because I was pretty neutral and always left the face open. I tend to slide into a weak grip at address if unchecked for too long.

So strong grip, wrist bow at top, didn't need to worry about turning the face over and I can still feel like I'm sweeping across the ball. Wondering what your thoughts were on that.

How do you lateral shift and squat as you drop your arms from a previous lesson?

Hi Chris. Great video! Love your channel! Hope you can do the fade in the same manner!

Hi Chris, excellent method for drawing the golf ball, however I’ve seen a lot of pros advocating a closed stance, and naturally promoting a in to out path, and as long as the face is closed to path it would automatically produce a draw. Do you also see this as an alternative? Great tips as always.

Tbh in my experience the best lessons you can have are with pros that work with what you have, what comes natural. If you're a natural fader of the ball don't go chasing a draw. Unless you're prepared to put in serious practice time you'll likely end up worse.

Should the iron release and driver release feel the same?

I do the same technique for the driver ?

Just a quick question if anyone can help to answer: to hit a draw I need a closed club face. Should I started with a slightly closed club face or start with squared face and closed it before hitting the ball? I rememeber in a previous video Chris talked about the motorcycle move to close the club face during releasing the club. Thanks
