I am an eye surgeon by profession and we use tablet Diamox a lot in eye surgery . To prevent the tingling sensation after taking this drug we need to take fruits rich in Pottasium, like banana and oranges .Diamox reduces Pottasium levels in the body .

She used the term blood thinner for the action of acetazolamide.
That's y a non medical personnel should never be talking about medicine.
Diamox is a diuretic(increases urine output n makes ur blood thicker comparatively if u are not hydrating adequately after taking it and also makes ur blood acidic leading to hyperventilation I.e. indirectly forcing u to breathe more n faster.

thanks for this review. i am watching this video at 7000 feet above sea level for the first time and am acclimatizing at this altitude on vacation. i was expecting worse, but living normally at around 3000 feet above sea level is something i have been curious about in how the body works.

Tablets like Diamox (Acetazolamide) and treatments like pure oxygen are the best remedy. Except a pressure chamber in a hospital.

If you are taking proactive measures, you should take shilajit regularly which is considered a panacea for high altitude problems.

We are traveling to high altitude and this helps to know, thank you. On another note I have heard acute respiratory distress presenting in current situation is likened to ams, I wonder if these drugs would help save lives

Never understand why so many people insist on avoiding meds like Diamox, which are harmless for most people and reduce chances of altitude sickness. All they are going is increasing their risk of becoming sick.

I(42 years), My (wife 40 years) and my son (11 years) plan to do a single day DIY trek from Chopta to Tunganath (chandrashila if possible). Out stay will be in Chopta. Should we take preventie (12 mg diamox starting 48 hours before trek. at interval of 12 hours each)? Whether same dosage is recommended to be given to my son (11 years) too?
