Scenes like this are what set this movie apart from standard action films and that is why it is the best action movie of all time in my book.

Helsinki Syndrome is when you can not distinguish between Finland and Sweden :))

This is one of the most memorable scenes of Die Hard to me for some reason.

This is so hilarious and obscure line of comedy. I wonder if Renny had some input into this.

This was also time when Finland wasn't recognized so often, so references like this were always huge news here

The scene is supposed to make fun of the media and the punditry. Not only are they stupid, but they truly have no idea what's really going on.

Thank you for posting - it was exactly what I was looking for!

Perfect comment on the mainstream media condition! Today it's even worse, even if they get the geography right.

This was a double spoof. The news bod and the supposed terrorist expert were both wrong. The filmmakers were pointing out the stupidity on the part of everybody on tv. For those of you who don't know. There is no such thing as Helsinki Syndrome. The psychological phenomenon of hostages identifying with and even sympathizing with their captors is called "Stockholm Syndrome", after a specific bank robbery that took place in that Swedish city in 1973. Not Helsinki Finland, as the author stated. The message here is, do not trust anybody on tv news. They're all full of ship.

I always suspected that Harvey knew it was actually Stockholm Syndrome and was deliberately trying to troll the guy, but it backfired.

I love this scene. The male reporter is written to look stupid cuz Helsinki aint in Sweden. Although, It's called the Stockholm syndrome, which IS in Sweden. I'll give the male reporter right and want to make the expert to look stupid. /swede.

I just love the Richard Madeley news bod trying to look erudite and mugs himself right off.

I think the name "Helsinki Sydrome" itself is the spoof. In the movie universe it's right and thus the author. So it's the anchorman who is wrong. He just wanted to be a mocking smartass and ended being exposed as ignorant. Satire

To this day I am still wondering if such a book exits🤣

Don’t worry. Close enough. They are only 12 hours apart by boat.

It's is better to remain silent and have everyone assume you are a fool than to speak and prove them correct.

Google wasn't around in 1988 when this movie was made, so people couldn't easily take out their cell phone to find out the difference between Stockholm syndrome and Helsinki syndrome.

The comments here are almost as good as the scene itself, lol.

A mexican communicator while talking about a lunar eclipse said: "This event gastronomic" (instead of astronomical) 😜🙄😬 The words in Spanish are very similar "astronómico / gastronómico"

You cut off the following scene where it shown that the expert's words doesn't actually occur.
