What an awesome tutorial! I had these pens for years and they were totally dried up. I just cleaned the 0.5 mm one and am onto the 0.75 and 0.35 next. Thank so much!

Six years later, this video is a gift that keeps on giving. I just found a complete set of these in Goodwill last night, instructions and all, for $3.99. Grabbed them up. Now to clean them. : )

The last part to unthread to take out the needle is being stubborn on them. I'm trying the microwave nuking method, although you didn't mention it.

Thank you. I just found my set I had in college 40 years ago! I’m in the process of cleaning the first one now. I had forgotten that you use the plastic tube to unscrew the nib.

Thanks for the great tutorial just cleaned and filled a 17 year old TG1-S, I filled it with printer ink as a test and it works like a charm.

Many thanks! I came across an old TG1 set which I bought for $2. I just spent 4 hours cleaning out the gummed up and chunky ink from them. I filled them up with Sumi Ink as I will use them for art, and now they work a treat!
I used toothpicks, cotton buds and lots of hot water to clean them up.

Great video! I recommend using q-tips soaked in room temperature water if you find your nib is a bit gunked with ink. I soaked mine in water for around 10 mins and a bunch of dried ink fell out. Make sure everything is dry of before reassembling! Thanks this helpful tutorial!

When cleaning old, dried-up ink, should I use only water, or do you recommend a particular cleaning fluid?

Very helpful thank you 🙏🏻 I just want to point out if you want to clean 0.30 and down it’s going to be hard I tried it the needle is very thin so get bend and I couldn’t put it back

pulling out the piston with the metallic hair is highly risky. If the thin hair gets bent just a little bit, which happens super easys, the pen is broken. I managed it a couple of times but I also lost a couple of pens while doing this.
