One Of many Local Castles to me 😊, I remember playing in the grounds of Coity Castle as a child, Many many good memories made there. Interestingly you didn't mention the things I thought you would have, for example the West Gate House used to be a lot more further out that it is now, If you were to look at the history boards placed around the Castle you would have seen the Castel used to be a heck of a lot bigger and a lot more Grander. Also if you were to have looked down the well you would see that there remains a Sword from one of the many Sieges that happened there, Also Coity Castle was once home to Owain Glyndŵr ( although I am not sure for how long he lived there ) but I do know he was there in the 15th Century which is when the Siege of Coity Castle took place 🙂. Also I believe the second floor you can look down in to one of the Dungeons. Coity Castle had 6 Dungeons 🙂

Useful video, thanks. Visiting soon. Sir Payn Turberville was an ancester of mine. Some of his descendants ended up in Bere Regis Dorset.

My family name is Coit, the family from Glamorganshire came to America before 1630. So needless to say, I visited Coity Castle some years ago. My memories are exactly what you're pointing out in your video. Delightful.

It looks a bit fragile to me, as if the next strong wind will redesign it. Do we know why it was abandoned? Family died out, maybe? This was a compact looking place.

I like the surmise that it was cannibalized for later building. Saved a lot of stone cutting if it's ready cut. Upcycling.
