In your opinion, what do films usually get wrong about medieval history?

The real medieval church is very different from the ogre it's often portrayed as.

The biggest deterrent would have been the sense of shame, which therefore resulted in a far more monogamous society. Just my two cents though :)

Even on XX century on countryside the priest webt from village ftom village marrying everyone on irregularity. Since marriage is a sacrament consumed by the couple, which lives publicly together, the Church also had a role to make it public on legal terms, since, on the grounds of assets and family, the marriage also had effects on third parties. Alas, the Roman Law also opened lots of possibilities for adoption and recognition of children outside the marriage.

That's the thing: you HAD to marry afterward to avoid consequences.

Any chance to hear your review of the book by Fritz Kern, Kingship and Law in Middle Ages.
Also Democracy: The god That Failed, by Hans-Hermann Hoppe? :P

God bless you, brother.

In the Arn books the penance Arn is ordered to do is seen as unusual, and is politically motivated as a way of weakening his fathers house.

Don't get me wrong I like when movies are historically accurate on all things of the particular time period however I can see why they do it to make it more entertaining to some
