Beginning Fly Tying Kit: Your Basic Equipment List

I see or hear the question "What do I need to get started tying flies?" quite often so I thought that i would be prepared the next time the question comes up. This is not going to be the cheapest set of suggestions, but it should give you a place to start. And don't just take my word for it, ask around and see what others think.

I’m new into tying flies, i have all the tools and some basic hackles and threads, im just wondering what a good kit or things that i will want later would be? Like what supplies are a must have, i have a small list but i would like to get lots of stuff at once instead of having individual buys

100% agree with Shorty's suggestions. Her's my 2 additional cents.  
1) Take a class before you buy anything. Local fly shop, Local TU chapter. Community college. You may find out that you love it - or you may find out it's a bunch of fussy nonsense. And pay close attention to the tools you are using in the class. How do they fit in your hands? Can you do what you want/need to do with them. Then buy what's comfortable. As with every other tool - it's less expensive to buy one good one that you can use than a bunch of crap ones that don't work for you.
2) Light, and if you are over the age of 30, a magnifying light. Flies, especially trout files are pretty small. If you can't see what you are doing really well - then it'll be a lot more difficult and frustrating to learn the techniques and make flies that will look good, work well and last longer that 5 minutes on the water.

Would love to have a beginners guide to buying hackle😂. I’m overwhelmed by the options and want to know what the best bang for the buck is. “If someone has nothing… what should they buy first?”

I have been tying flies when I go to my dad’s house😅… now I am building out my own kit but haven’t spent 30 years collecting things on sale like my dad has. Where should someone start with hackle?

You don't need all this big money stuff. The first vice that he had will do the job. All the vice has got to do is hold the hook. You can make a lot of the tools.☺
