In all fairness, the fact I have to install Wine and manually set an IP on my interface being "the easy way" shows that there should really come a native Linux version (or possibly using a WORA system like the JVM).
Heck, I'm sure if you make it an OSS project, the MT community would be more than willing to help with it.

Community was asking for SOCKS v5 about 8 years, wright? Who knows, maybe in 2-5 year of requests -the native “Linbox” will be released. As for now, we have a great opportunity to listen “Mikrotik late-night shows” for 30 mins each – just waiting for Win7 virtual machine installing for Winbox access (for those who don’t like “the EASY way”)

Why don't you guys make a native linux version!
Common man.. it's been ages.... wine works for sure but you guys have the resource to built the linux and mac native version! It's really helpful if there were native Linux and Mac winbox.

Is that a late April's fool joke? The entire os of the routeros is based on linux and all these years mikrotik is not capable to write a native app of linux and macos? Mikrotik is a joke.

Hello Sir, could you give some tips about using a winbox app in linux, with GNS3 emulator, actually i can't connect to virtual mikro-nodes via winbox on linux, but in wireshark i can see a mikrotik l2-packets? Have you some thoads?

Maybe it's time to consider making a native version, maybe re-write winbox in something like QT, then all you need to do is add the platform specific low level code for networking (layer 2, etc) and you have a single native app that works on all major platforms. The android app already exists, I don't see a reason not to make a native winbox
