Family circulates safety petition after young woman is killed by train in Chicago

Grace Bentkowski, 22, was struck and killed late July in by a South Shore Line train at the Hegewisch station. Darius Johnson reports on the action Bentkowski's family is now taking.

Oh man grandma really hurt my heart I wanna find her and hug her so badly 😢 I hope her and the rest of her family can find peace in their souls and can see some kind of light at the end of this darkness. Poor thing didn’t get a chance to be a great woman in adulthood.truly devastating

"Yeah, why didn't she look both ways before crossing the track? Look up Japanese railways human body incidents."
No consideration to the train engineer or any other crew members when they hit someone. Means they live with it and even get blamed.

The bigger problem is not being able to cross train tracks safely. I'm sixty three and I've never had a problem. I know how to cross the street, too. My mom and dad taught me how when I was younger. I also watched 100s of public service announcements, too.

Trains do not hit people on their own !!! Everybody watch out for the TRAIN LOOK AROUND at your surroundings

This station did not open in 2008...It's been around way longer than that, where are they getting that year from?

Unfortunately the young lady was not paying attention as she followed others walking across the tracks that a train was coming.

Every railroad crossing (I mean every railroad crossing) should have light and horns to warn traffic as well as pedestrian traffic of on coming trains. Why is THIS not a FEDERAL LAW!!!!

Do you mean, telling people to use COMMON SENSE when crossing any train tracks ???
I mean, it's the same when driving, and crossing the street.

It would serve them better if they started a scholarship program or something positive out of this young woman's life..
