My 9 yr old Cat was just diagnosed with diabetes and I feel stressed out giving the injection to her. Did it for the first time this morning. Came here to make sure I'm doing it right ...

Thanks as we just found out this diagnosis and it is overwhelming as I have never even known of a human with this condition.

I own a PET SITTING BUSINESS and have had to give insulin to both dogs and cats. I hate needles and it still stresses me out despite doing it a lot. Here are SOME TIPS: I always do this under bright lights - doing it in a darker environment sucks. Make sure you get enough of the skin/fur area so you don’t poke yourself or the needle comes out the other side! And I always make sure my hands are washed and COMPLETELY DRY! Why you ask? After I give the injection, I always rub the area for a variety of reasons. But mostly - to make sure the area is not wet. That HAS happened to me once! (I don’t know if the needle did not go all the way in - or what happened. ) I called the owner and the vet and both said the same thing - do NOT RE-GIVE an insulin shot if something happened. It is better to give less than more.

This by far is the best video on this. They give you straight up instructions without having to explain about diabetes. I was explained all of this at the vet but it was so overwhelming between being nervous & trying to keep my cat calm. By the time it was time for me to do it I felt like I wasn’t doing something right. The tech never told me to turn the bottle upside down so his first two shots were air! This is hard to do starting out but I know we will get into our own routine & be fine. Once again thanks for the clear instructions without the unnecessary commentary. I think you saved my cats life.

Highly dependant on the temperament of the cat. Possibly the most crucial thing not mentioned.

My cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes. From everything I've watched on diabetic cats it seems like cats with orange coloring (mine is white and orange) are very prone to diabetes.

They do have an oral med now. I am using it for my 15 year old female. The name is Bexacat, and working for her. No idea how much more time she has, but is already one of the older cats.

No pulling back to see if you're in a blood vessel?

Don't you need to inject air into the vial?

I'm seriously gonna need a feline straight jacket to give my cat insulin. She doesn't even let me clean her ears😒🐱

About two out of five injections fail because my cats skin is so tough. I pull the skin tight, poke the needle and then smell the creosote on her skin instead of in it. I try multiple places until I feel it go in, but then another fail.. 😫

I like the pace of the instructions, but the rubber should be desinfection after touching it, and air should be injected in, the same number as insulin units.

My cat became skinny around her neck because of her illness no matter how much shes eatting because she was just diagnosed with diabetic at almost 14 years old. I have a problem she's also becomes aggressive since being sick, the Dr has to use a tranquilizer injection to be able to give her a blood text 2 weeks ago now i m bringing her back to get treated for an infection and the diabetic problem but the trouble is She won't let anyone touch her when it comes to things like that HELP WHAT CAN I DO?!?!

HiThere are veterinarians who say that feathers for human use are not suitable for cats or dogs because they have different skin. What do you think of that? Does your kitty absorb insulin without problems? When you massage it, there is nothing left on your fingers? and I see that you also withdraw the needle quickly, is it not necessary to wait a few seconds? What measures is the needle?Kind regards

I’m having trouble understand what is meant by tenting the skin. My dog was recently diagnosed. The vet also told me not to do it in the scruff. Even though I watch this video and try it I don’t see a pocket when I lift the skin? Any help would be appreciated or possibly refer me to another video that shows the actual tenting of the skin.

I asked my vet if my cat had diabetic neuropathy from the steroids. He said that diabetes is the trade off for steroids and insulin is a hassle. He continued giving her 40mg depomedrol injections every 2 weeks until she died.

Very cute but don't use the tip of your index (pretty much the dirtiest place on hands) on the rubber where u stab several times with a needle to extract that sweet sweet insuline.
