*Some Important Points*

1. India is one of the oldest civilization in the whole world.

2. Over past five decades, India has developed a lot in socio-economic field.

3. It has played an important role in world history.

4. India completely lies in Northern Hemisphere.

5. It's mainland extends between:

Latitudes: 8°4'N & 37°6'N
Longitudes: 68°7'E & 97°25'E

6. The Tropic Of Cancer (23°30'N) divides the country into almost two equal parts.

7. To the southeast of India's mainland lies Andaman and Nicobar Islands in Bay Of Bengal.

8. To the southwest of India's mainland lies Lakshadweep in Arabian Sea.

9. India is the seventh largest country in the world (according to size).

10. Largest To Smallest Countries (until India) are as follows:

RCUC BAI: Russia, Canada, USA, China, Brazil, Australia, India

11. The land mass of India has about 3.28 million square km area.

12. India's total area accounts about 2.4 percent of geographical area of the world.

13. It has a land boundary of about 15, 200 km.

14. Total length of the coastline including both islands is 7, 516.6 km.

15. India is bounded by the young fold mountains in the north, northeast and northwest.

16. These mountains are very helpful in:
I. Protecting us from attack of neighbouring countries like China.
II. Protecting us from harsh winds coming from northern side of India.
III. Letting winds coming from southwest side of India rain in India.

17. From 22° North of latitude, it begins to taper towards Indian Ocean dividing it into two parts: Andaman & Nicobar lslands and Lakshadweep.

18. Longitudinal Extent: Influences the sunrise and sunset from east to west.

19. Latitudinal Extent: Influences the duration of day and night.

20. There is a time lag of 2hrs between Arunachal Pradesh & Gujarat. (Watch this topic to know more coz it's very important)

21. To avoid implications, time of India is decided by its Standard Meridian which is 82°30'E passing through Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh).

22. Standard Meridian passes through the states of Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh (OMACU)

23. Tropic Of Cancer passes from 8 states namely Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh & Jharkhand.

Easy way to learn: मित्र पर गमछा झाड़।

मि for Mizoram
त्र for Tripura
प for Pashchim Bengal means West Bengal
र for Rajasthan
ग for Gujarat
म for Madhya Pradesh
छा for Chhattisgarh
झाड़ for Jharkhand

24. Southernmost Point of Indian Union is located in southermost part of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in Bay Of Bengal.

25. India's neighboring countries are:

North West: Pakistan & Afghanistan
North: China (Tibet), Nepal & Bhutan
North East: Bangladesh & Myanmar

26. Kanyakumari is near the equator but Kashmir is 30° longitudes away from the equator. Duration of day and night is hardly felt at places near the equator but this difference increases when going far away for the equator due to which difference between duration of day and night is hardly felt in Kanyakumari.

This is due to earth's being tilt.

27. The Indian landmass has a central location between the East and the West Asia.

India is a southward extension of the Asian continent.

The trans Indian Ocean routes, which connect the countries of Europe in the West and the countries of East Asia, provide a strategic central location to India.

India's protruding Deccan Peninsula helped India to establish close contacts with West Asia, Africa and Europe, South-East and East Asia.

Thus proving India's contacts with the world via land routes are much more than Its maritime contacts.

28. India's contact with rest of the world contributed in exchange of ideas and commodities as given below:

I. The ideas of the Upanishads, Ramayana, the stories of Panchantantra, numerals and the decimal system thus could reach many parts of the world.

II. The spices, muslin and other merchandise were taken from India to different countries.

III. On the other hand, the influence of Greek Sculpture and the architectural system and minarets from West Asia could be find in different parts of our country.

29. Our southern neighbors are Maldives and Sri Lanka.

30. We share most of our border with Bangladesh.

31. India has 28 states and 8 union territories named Delhi, Chandigarh, Kashmir, Laddakh, Daman & Diu and Dadar & Nagar Haveli, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

32. Since the building of Suez Canal in 1869, 7000km of traveling were saved and before that, Europeans, Americans etc, had to travel all around Asia for around 3-4 months to reach India.

33. Sri Lanka is seperated from India by a narrow channel of sea formed by the Palk Strait & Gulf of Mannar.

34. India has had strong historical as well as geographical links with her neighbors.

35. Indian states which share their border with-

Pakistan: Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

Afghanistan: Ladakh (POK Region)

China: Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh

Nepal: Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, , West Bengal, Sikkim,

Bhutan: Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh

Myanmar: Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram

Bangladesh: West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram

Done! Hope you like it! I spent hours on writing these points for my future self and for y'all...

Please learn some questions answers from reference book too such as Golden, Xam Idea etc.

I would refer Xam Idea for those who want to study S.S.T only for exams purpose and don't like the subject more. And Golden for people who love this subject and want to learn more about it. Questions of every reference book are same but the language used to answer those may be different. What I meant by is some books may have detailed answers but some may have short answers but all will be correct.

These points are helpful for Competitive Exams Purpose too.
