Sonic Frontiers OST - Dear Father

Father, I just wanna tell you

Thank you for all that you've given me

I'm really going to miss you

I hope you're not mad at me

Took me time to realize

My heart is for what data can't do

Feelings growing deep inside

They've taught me what it means to love you

I know now that love is beautiful
I know now the reason why these tears fall from my eyes

This is goodbye

I'm happy to have been your creation, to have been your child

Father I wanted to make you proud
Father I will keep you safe

I wish I could've found a way
to stay with you forever

Then maybe we... could be a family born of love

Be a family born of love

Be a family born of love

Be a family born of love

Hope that you feel the same
'Til we meet again

Hope that you feel the same
'Til we meet again

Thank you for everything

Judging by the little dialogue after the second credits that went "Father?" "That's my girl." i'm going to hopefully assume that that means Eggman had a backup or something and she'll be coming back in the future. God I hope.

If you'd have told me five years ago, "Dr. Eggman's bond with his surrogate daughter will be the emotional center of the next Sonic game" I would never have believed you.

But I'm so glad it happened.

Real talk, though? The voice of Eggman, Mike Pollock, must have had such a different experience with this game. I bring that up because Mike himself is a dedicated dad in real life.

The fact the writers for Sonic gave the character he’s played for so long a real child figure?… It makes this song take on a whole other level. So meaningful…

"I take the time to program life-like personalities into some of my minions, and all it does is frustrate me. Once - *just once!* - I'd like one of my creations to fill me with *pride* instead of regret." -Dr. Eggman, _Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Convergence, _ before any of this started

Eggman watching the stars fall and reaching out before balling his fist, then immediately transitioning to this gut-punch of a song got me fucked up in the crib ngl. Sage is absolutely Chip-tier and I can’t believe I’m saying that.

This song hurt...a lot. If you listen closely in the chorus, you'll hear the same melody that Sage was humming during her crying moment on the third Island. Hearing that motif appear again, the song that she hummed when she was wishing for a loving family, as she gave her life to protect the one who she would consider family...
This credit sequence hurt extremely hard just for that

If there’s one thing that Frontiers and IDW have taught me, it’s that Ian Flynn loves writing Eggman as a dad… and I am _so_ here for it

I recently lost my father, and I went to his memorial right before beating this game, and this song, despite being about a father who lost their child, hit me really hard. Didn’t think a Sonic game would make me tear up. Sega and Ian Flynn did a damn good job, not to mention everyone who wrote this song.

That scene with Eggman on the cliff is one of my new favourite shots in the entire franchise.
And now because of association, this song literally makes me tear up every time I hear it.

Congratulations, Ian Flynn. Thank you so much for making me care about these characters again.

"I hope you're not mad at me" gets me for some reason 😭

This game managed to accomplish something that previous Sonic titles could not for so long: making us emotionally attached to the characters.
Bravo Ian Flynn, bravo.

I immediately compared this song to “Dear My Friend” from Sonic Unleashed. It hits my heart the exact same way.

I literally cried at this when it started playing over the credits...

I recently lost my Dad. This song has been sticking with me for a while.
I love you, Dad. Rest In Peace.

That final scene of Eggman watching the falling stars, and reaching out.... It hit 💔😔

No ending to any Sonic game has ever made me cry since Adventure 2. Sage is an amazing character and I look forward to seeing more of her in future Sonic games.

Eggman stands alone, until Sonic walks into the scene, startling the doctor.

Sonic: Hey, doc. How are you holding up?

Eggman: Sonic!? What are you doing here!? Leave me alone!

Sonic can sense weakness in Eggman's voice, the man wearing a mournful expression on his face. Sonic sighs, his expression becoming more serious.

Sonic: Look... I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about what happened to your daughter. There was nothing I could have done. You know, she gave her life to save all of us. So, I guess we've just gotta keep going. It's what she would have wanted. Otherwise, her sacrifice would have been in vain, right?

Eggman just turns away from the hedgehog, not speaking a single word.

Sonic: ...You wanna know what her final words were? 'Please look after Father.' Heh... Who am I to turn down a dying wish? So, Eggman... I know we have our differences, but, well... Just know that I'm here for you if you ever need me.

What Sonic just said seemed to have resonated with Eggman. After a moment, the doctor turns back to face Sonic, speaking in a quiet voice.

Eggman: Thank you, Sonic.

Sonic just grins, before he chuckles to himself. After so many years of constant battling, Sonic couldn't remember the last time they shared a tender moment like this. The two watch the shooting stars soar through the sky for a little longer, before Sonic begins to slip away. But before Sonic can return to his friends, Eggman stops him.

Eggman: And just so you know, Sonic... We're still enemies. This changes nothing.

Upon hearing this, Sonic just chuckles again.

Sonic: Heh... I wouldn't have it any other way. Later days, Eggman!

Eggman: Until next time.

With that, Sonic shoots off into the distance, leaving Eggman alone once again.

My Old Man Just Passed away. This song was stuck in my head the entire time everything was happening.
Rest in Peace Father
I love You

This is probably the first time I've felt sorry Eggman. Man created the perfect AI and even grew a relationship with her similar to a father and daughter and then she sacrifices herself to save him and everyone.

And then this song plays after. Talk about getting hit by a truck of emotions
