You have to love Canada's justice system. This nineteen year old with probably get life in prison with parole after twenty years. So by the time he is forty, he could be free. Now if Canada had the same policies as the United States, this person would be locked up forever.

The family took him in, rented him or lent him a room, and he repaid them with death.
I guess we wait for court to hear the story of why this happened.
And yes, a foreign student will now be spending 40 or 50 years being paid for by the tax payer while he lives out his life in prison.
It would save us money if we could get the conviction, then ship him back to Sri Lanka to serve his sentence. Sri Lanka still has the death penalty. I wonder how Sri Lankans feel about a man who murders 4 children.

edit: probably if housing was not so expensive, they would not have had the need to rent out a room. But I imagine 4 children is expensive, and housing is very expensive, so they didn't have much choice.

edit: A reply was spot on: 100s of thousands of Sri Lankans have come to Canada and the vast majority are very good people who are doing very good things for the country. This one young man definitely does not represent Sri Lanka.

Canada doesn’t have the best schools to be honest you .Lots of people pick Canada to migrant just because It’s way easy to come to Canada for random school as an international student and get the PR rather than going to a different country . Besides cost of living and housing crisis these students figure out life in Canada hard way. Most of the time you find 5 students in a one bedroom and 10 plus people in a house . Canadian government just need the money from these kids . I m pretty sure that family trying to help the student but due to that students financials situation, stress and living conditions with a random family even though from the country probably triggered him to commit these crimes .
