King Charles became annoyed with a leaking pen during a visit to Northern Ireland's Hillsborough Castle on Tuesday.

Charles, alongside the Queen Consort, Camilla, was attending a reception at the castle, where he met with members of Northern Ireland's assembly.

During a book-signing ceremony towards the end of the visit, Charles realised he had initially signed the wrong date and then complained about the pen he was using, with the Queen Consort saying it was leaking 'everywhere'. The pen was swiftly vanished by a royal aide before Camilla sat down to sign the book herself

"I refuse to be blamed any longer for this grotesque misalliance!" shouted Charles, strangling the pen with his bare hands "I wash my hands of it!"

As someone who’s used and been victimized by a fountain pen, I understand his sentiment.

I feel for him. I once stole my dad's fountain pen, thinking it was fancy. Blasted thing started leaking in my bag ruining all my books.

People are saying the queen was never grumpy like this, but that's unrealistic. She just lived at a time where people weren't constantly waving cameras in her face - until the last decade or so, but by then she'd already had a lot of practice...

In an emotional moment like that a tiny thing can frustrate a person

When you're under a lot of stress and grief, small things can really frustrate. He's a human being.

This has probably been the worst week of his life. I cant imagine the grief and pressure he must feel. I would be an absolute wreck. He's handling it all to the best of his ability and it has been admirable, truly, to see him teary eyed at times. He loved his mother dearly.

This one clip made me really feel for Charles here. All the stress, grief and pressure he is under and this just shows that the smallest thing like a leaky fountain pen is enough to make you snap.

I'm glad most people in the comments are being understanding and not criticizing him. The man just lost his mother and now has to adjust to a new life and new commitments at 73. He doesn't even know the date he is in because he has so many things on his head. He hasn't even had the time to grieve privately. Monarchist or not, we're humans and we can relate.

Seriously, you’d think they could get a decent pen for the occasion.

This is the most relatable thing I’ve seen from him. I lost my dad last month and I haven’t remembered a date or appointment since.

I feel terrible for him. He's lost both of his parents in a short period of time, and he's been crowned the King of England. All while the world is watching him mourn his beloved mom. He has every right to be frsutrated. I can't even begin to imagine the stress he is under.

As the saying goes "The pen is mightier than the sword" Even the strongest have to bend to it's will. 😂

The man must be so tired. I can’t imagine anyone else who’s grieving their mother to muster the strength he has these past few days. Hats off to him, he is stronger than I would be.

He’s expected to carry out these duties WHILST GRIEVING for his late mother The Queen. I’m honestly impressed at how composed and strong he has has been through out all of this.

Charles: can't use a pen

4, 1 million people: Interesting.

As a former supervisor at a courthouse, I really hated when pens did that. Especially with important documents. 🖊

Poor man hasn’t had a moment to himself yet. Straight in to relentless duty. Respect.

The man just lost his mother. His emotions are going to be all over the places atm.... even over a pen.

Grief in losing a loved one no matter how old is difficult. Imagine becoming the King of multiple nations at the senior age of 73 AND hosting THOUSANDS of world leaders and MILLIONS of people grieving your precious mother. Grief comes out as frustration on those little things. King Charles—100% agree about fountain pens and the ink being annoying however, it would look horrible to use a cheap assed $1 ballpoint pen!!!
If u have never used an old school fountain pen and ink well—-they LEAK and the ink can ruin your clothes! They are NOT cheap ball point pens!!
