I stayed in a hotel in Indonesia where they used the UK sockets (standard in neighbouring Singapore) but the TV was made with the two-prong Europe plug. I called the reception to send somebody up to change the TV for one with the right plug. The guy came up, stared at me as if I was dumb, and jammed the Europe plug into the UK socket.

Made to fit most European standards.
You confused it with Schuko, whocj is de facto standard in Europe.

in Malaysia, we done care to use Euro plug to UK plug, just hit the earth hole to release Live and Neutral hole.. no need buy an adaptor to do it.. just make sure your gadget is support 230v.. if not, it's kaboom your gadget..

I've seen so many of these comments dissing the UK plug. The UK plug has so many features that make it the best in the world. Like the longer Earth prong that opens the live and neutral outlets. Or the wires inside are design in such a way that if the wires get yanked out the last one to release is the earth wire that keeps you safe. Or the fact that the wire comes out the bottom so it's closer to the wall. There is a video on you tube of an American showing this and more n how great of an invention it is.

I fitted one of those converter plugs on a pair of GHD hair straighteners about 15 to 20 years ago.

When I was in Ireland they had the uk plugs too. My phone charger ofc was European. So I plugged it into the wall and it worked just fine.

they will say that this big plug is fused so more secure, but they don't know that eu has circuit breaker in the switch box that is re usable

In some ways I think the European plugs are better then UK plugs because you can plug them in upside down or the correct way up depending where your plug is coming out of where as UK plugs they can only be plugged in one way

I moved to the uk 12 years ago. First thing i learned about these plugs is to use a uk plug upside down just the middle ground pin to open the other two and then just plug the euro in. A bit janky but it works...
