Why not drive the screw into the wood itself? I could see using this for drywall where there isn’t a stud etc..

I don't think that they're doing this to actually attach anything they're showing you how the anchor works most people would assume that once the screw is tight that it's finished but it looks to me like you want to keep tightening until it bends up like that because then if you're using this as a anchor on a wall for something it would hold much better with it's bent then if you just tighten the screw until it was snug

Look yall, I'm gonna say this...

Try not to use these. Stud finders are cheap and easy to use, and if your drywall is thin, finding a stud by knocking on it is still not hard, really. Try to get at least one of your screws in a stud. You'll thank me in the long run.
