As a gym rat of over 15 years, I'd advise against approaching girls in the gym. Even if you're in great shape and approach her in a confident, charismatic way, the chances that she won't be interested is too high. Yes, when you approach her, she might be all smiles, giggles, hair twirls and eye contact, but the next time you see her, she might suddenly avoid you and refuse to make eye contact.

Not only does this make it awkward whenever you see each other, but it's very likely that she'll spread the word about you to other girls and before you know it, you're being avoided by every girl there. Which means you'll soon be avoided by many of the guys as well, since they don't want to be associated with the guy that the hot girls don't like.

I've tried all of these tips and more, and while this is just my personal experience, I thought I'd share.

Several years ago a woman actually approached me in the gym after our cardio session. She said that I was looking good on the floor. So I gave her a 2nd look, for the next few weeks, one night, sfter class we had a nutritional workshop, and she brought in a Lentil stew, so, I took the opportunity to compliment her cooking and, later she invited me to her home for dinner. I know women think they know how they want to be approached. But your tipps are just setting people up for failure right from the start. It works similar to music, you cant play music in the key of a note you didn’t start on. She needs to realize (maybe not in the first sentence) in the first conversation that you are talking to her because she is sexually attractive to you. Otherwise it reduces the potential for sexual escalation later.

I attend a high end gym and noticed that the only men talking to the good looking women are older dudes (over60) and the very unattractive men. I can see the women cringing trying to end the conversations quickly and nicely.A better way to meet women at the gym is to befriend the people who know everyone. At my gym, there are a few people that are very social, and know who’s who. Latch on to them and network off them. Theres an older guy at my gym that has the scoop on just about every gal in the place. Every gym has a person like him. Use that person to meet new people.

Step 1: Be sure you are muscular. Women at the gym don't want to be approached by normal/skinny/fat/ugly men. That's why they go to the gym, to increase their chance to get hit on by a muscular fit guy.

I disagree on the part about improving the technique. It's not that black or white. There are certain exercises / machines where it's possible to start a conversation and give some advice on the technique.
In my experience it worked well on the rowing machine. Honestly, very few people have a proper rawing technique. I've had a positive feedback on sharing some tips.
As with everything else, it certainly depends a lot on your approach. Are you humble, are you polite, etc.

I've been doing the gym and dancing thing for well over 25 years. In both environments, the interaction is unavoidable. I am also retired from serving the military about as long. The BIGGEST rule is to always give a woman a chance to absorb what you gave her so she can respond. Do not make it sexual. On a treadmill in the gym, I can tell her she is a total bitch to keep up with; respecting her fitness level. On the dance floor, let her know you can play with her or dance or dance at her skillset. In the service, the same woman I drove to reach a goal will often buy me a drink at the common bar because I pushed her. In every case, I planted a seed and let it marinate until she came back to me.
