If you become a minimalist then you are just copying this trend and this is no different from being influenced to buy them. Just buy what you love and can afford that fits your lifestyle.

I am 70 and I intend to stay fabulous and buy what I want as long as everything else is in order!

I feel done with paying full price for brand new bags. It’s feels like a rip off when there’s so many deals to be found vintage and secondhand

I hope luxury bag lovers do follow the trend towards minimalism so I can purchase their designer bags pre loved 😂. Really, I think some of these influencers bought items for content and popularity and just now they’re looking inward to learn what they like. Most people don’t have collections their size so there is no reason to sell their bags.

maybe a hot take but I usually assume most of the new luxury minimalists are probably having money concerns and bc they’re sort of public figures minimalism is an easier way to address it with an audience. but there’s nothing wrong with realizing you’re overspending and trying to cut back and recoup some of your money. minimalism is an interesting concept to ponder in general. I think it’s important to not get overwhelmed by material possessions and I do agree we can outgrow bags and editing is appropriate now and then. 😊

I think it’s important to use your bags and enjoy them not keep them hidden away afraid to use them. Decluttering feels great but it also feels great when you use the items you have invested in.

I remembered the first round of quiet luxury and everyone was ditching their logos for Mansur Gavriel bags then the “trend” went back to logos and everyone was selling their MG bags for super cheap. I’m going keeping carrying what I want lol

I used to collect music boxes when I was in my twenties and I also collected Star Trek memorabilia up until my thirties, but I don’t now. I changed but I don’t judge people who still collect those things. My problem with some of these youtubers who have made the change from buying luxury is that they appear to be telling others that they are stupid or wasting their money for still doing so. What’s good for one or a couple people is not necessarily good for others. It seems that they are still trying to influence people to be like them whatever iteration they happen to be now. Just say “I no longer want to consume luxury products” and move on. I feel that is hubris and unhealthy or presumptuous. Great topic, Jessie. Thanks for sharing!

I agree with other people who commented that these people are just being influenced to be a minimalist. Also, I feel it’s so wasteful to get rid of everything. Just my opinion

I think they just want to get rid off some items in their closet that they don’t use anymore and put them for sale!

I feel they are pandering, cuz people are suffering economically and bragging about expensive designer goods isn't really hitting like it used to..., people views have gone down, so they are pivoting

I think this is similar behavior to binging and purging in eating disorders, you feel bad for binging so then you restrict or purge to atone for your sins

The important thing to remember is to be yourself. Don’t buy things or do things just because an influencer has. We all share our ideas one way or another and we, as individuals, can just pick what works for us. Our styles and tastes change overtime. So, if one can afford to buy and sell their luxury goods as they desire, by all means.

Anna Bey said at the beginning that she wasn't getting rid of everything or her walk-in closet. She just wasn't going to continue the chase. Nikki said she changed because she is now a mother of young children. She mentioned clothes and shoes but didn't mention decluttering handbags. It's ok to morph and change. Buy what you like... Enjoy what you have. We women should support each other, not criticize others' choices.

Thanks for making this video, Jessie :) I find it quite hypocritical from influencers that were buying huge amounts until now to suddenly 'wake up' and start preaching to everyone that this is the way. If they had a spending problem, that doesn't mean that everybody else had it 😃. I am going to continue to buy luxury bags in moderation (and look online for content related to it) because it makes me happy 😊. Everybody should do what is right for them in their unique situation :)

Thanks for this video Jess - I see these ‘awakening’ videos not only as personal phases but also as very subtle elitism. As the luxury arena broadens/democratises they have to find something else to attain. What’s the next step from ‘quiet luxury’? oh ‘I’m empty inside’ let me find myself a la Gwyneth Paltrow via Brené Brown. It’s all so performative. If you’re doing ‘the work’ why do you feel compelled to get on social media and share your newly forming/non evidence based opinions with an audience that obviously enjoys fashion and subtly suggest they should reassess. The killer is apologising for ‘influencing others to buy’. Why not just leave these platforms and live your life? Because there is still money to be made- Just foul!!
Clearly, this ‘renewal/anti lux’ content is absolutely not for me🤣🤣🤣

People are waking up! We would rather travel, spend time with children or friends and buy property. We are all fed up with these designer bags - especially when there are so many nice bags that you can wear that cost a fraction of the price of what another luxury bag costs. After I bought my Chanel classic flap 3 years ago - my love for bags died. It’s not worth it! On top of it Hermes plays too many games and there are too many fake bags lurking around. No one cares anymore. It’s really sad but the truth.

Great video!! It was refreshing- Thanks 🙏🏾

Anna Bey is always wearing Hermes quota handbags and now all of a sudden, she experienced an awakening when she has highlighted some minimal/no logo luxury designer bags for her followers to purchase under the guise of being elegant? Seems suspicious to me other than the fact that it makes them tone deaf if they continued to shove luxury brands in their followers’ faces when people are financially struggling.

Jessie, you are 100% right, my 10yrs friendship quite ended, because of my friend feeling superior and above me for 'not buying as much as me' and 'being a minimalist'. I had enough of this 'blablabla', because enjoying things, styling them and shopping second-hand was really my only sparkle of light during my post-partum depression (I was on the therapy too). And she was still blaming me for that and she tried to fit me into her frame of life, saying: you should spend your money for something more valuable, e.g. travelling. I don't get it really, for me travelling is also a form of consumption, so is buying something considered 'serious' and 'adultish' like e.g. car, apartment etc. Why don't we let the others spend their money however they want if it's not hurting anyone... Thanks Jess for sharing your point of view! Clearly you are the creative soul and aesthetic is important to you - its nothing to feel bad about, it's rather reason to be proud.

I've definitely detoxed from buying luxury and have a handful of beautiful bags that work for any occasion I might find myself in. Bags are leather sacks.... I for one am relieved that the spell has broken for me and for so many others.
