Harmful? Who ever said they were harmful? These things are stupidly harmless and spend all their time getting lost and bouncing off walls!

I always found crane flies quite entertaining. They fly around like a mad headless chicken and then just chill by dangling from the ceiling using a single leg.

IT CALMS ME SO MUCH TO SEE OTHERS ARE SCARED OF THEM THE SAME WAY I AM

There's one in my room right now.
It's 1am, my light is off.
I'm crying.

I once found one rolling on the ground because it was tangled up in spider silk and some kind of fluffy moss. I carefully extracted it, didn't break any legs or wings, and when it was free to fly off, it circled around my head three times and left. I honestly think it was grateful and thanking me in its simplistic bug ways, and that experience left me with the notion that insects are more cognizant than we give them credit for.

There is literally nothing that gives me a scare as much as one of these things flying in front of my face. Maybe one day Ill conquer my fear.

I know they won't hurt me but I can't help but have a deep-seated phobia of these insects. Maybe it's because they DO look like giant mosquitos. Or how erratic they look while flying around. Ugh I HATE them 😭

Other than the legs, I think the main thing that really freaks me out is the sound of its wings vibrating loudly against a window or wall when it's flying.

They give me goosebumps, man...

I had a friend who had a cat named Jimmy. Jimmy was a sweetheart, but about as sharp as a sock full of soup. We started calling crane flies "Jimmy-bugs" because they act so drunk all the time. It's been years, but I still call them Jimmy-bugs lol

They may not be able to hurt me, but it doesn't stop me from being afraid of this dumb bugs. 😅

I find these in my house all the time. I try my best to catch them and release them outside. The same with cellar spiders, but for them I try to move them closer to the ceiling instead of outside.

My late friend (RIP) was absolutely terrified of these things thinking they were huge mosquitos. He later consoled himself with the false knowledge that he thought they ATE mosquitos. Neither turned out to be true. Harmless things they are.
