This coat came from the Texas Civil War Museum in Fort Worth, TX which sadly closed it's doors on October 31, 2024. I have a picture of this jacket. Nice to see it displayed again.

I just came from Vacation from Gettysburg and just let me say that I never learned so much History in a few days before!
Such a heartache went these Soldiers went through. May they march on in Peace in Heaven, and thank you to Grant and for those up above who fought for us. ❤❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

One of the great tragedies of modern local politics coupled with an aging sole owner was the closing and liquidation of the Texas Civil War Museum last year.

I was born in Galena, IL - my parents lived there for awhile and we grew up going back when they moved away all the time. We have a special place in our hearts for U.S. Grant and the Civil War as a result 😊

My great great grandfather, Montgomery Meigs, was Grants aide, and right hand man. This thrills me!❤

We were just at Gettysburg on Friday and had the extreme pleasure to view this coat at the Horse Soldier. The gracious folks there estimated it to be a size 36. As to smell, our host suggested "museum". I cannot express how moved we were to be so close to such a personal item of Grant's.

Thank you for sharing this very important piece of American history ❤❤. Glad to see that it will be very well taken care of by someone who is very passionate about our history just as the rest of us are ….however I am amazed that this piece isn’t in a museum where the rest of our very important history pieces….thank you for sharing this ❤❤❤❤❤

I was at a museum years ago and saw Washingtons uniform and it brought him to life not just a page in history

Imagine possibly being worn on July 3, 1863, while Gettysburg was in its second day. General Ulysses S. Grant. Vicksburg, Mississippi. Discussing surrender terms. Displayed in Gettysburg, this artifact really ties the war together. Growing up in Gettysburg, the battle seemed to overshadow all other events.

I was fortunate enough to be able to touch the coat a few months ago. One of the cool thing about it is that there are holes in the breast pocket where he probably kept his cigars from insects eating the tobacco residue.

My grandfather's uncle tailored a suit for Grant in Cincinnati during the war.
