A new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine finds some health effects of long COVID, including chronic fatigue and brain fog, can impair a person's ability to work or attend school for six months to two years. Dr. Céline Gounder, editor-at-large for public health at KFF, joined CBS News to discuss the findings and the latest news about bird flu.

I’ve had long-COVID for 18 months. The fatigue, brain fog and other symptoms are debilitating. Unable to return to work. It’s REAL!

Lost ability to function safely or effectively at work, lost ability to function as part of my family unit. So loss of 30 year career, family, heath, mental abilities, home, pets, lifestyle and most of my possessions. Denied disability even though I have been working since 14. It was either go on welfare or live on the streets. I figured out a way to feed and house myself but it's hard to get through each day. March 2020 I was a successful ventilator nurse and got covid from a patient. Veterans arent the only "heros" that America turned her back on. I only live because I am too tough to give up, and no longer trust any institution because of the treatment I received. I have been shunned and ridiculed for being functionally disabled. I forgave, but won't forget, I only trust myself now.
I do wonder how many suicides have been in response to loss of job, family, normal function., how many ppl ended up on the street in a tent? Or a car? Often feel like everyone is just waiting for me to give up and die, but I am not ready for that, and resent that's all I am to them, just a burden and a reminder of their shortcoming of empathy.

Got Covid 4 years ago before vaccines. Never got my smell or taste back. I could literally leave the stove on accidentally and would never smell the gas. I’ve got breathing issues now that I never had. At night I wake up feeling like I’m suffocating. Haven’t slept in my bed in 4 years instead I sleep on my side on a sofa with a strong fan pointed at my face to get enough air to sleep. The fatigue is no joke. Feels like doing anything makes me extremely tired as if I ran a marathon even if barely active. Working has become nearly impossible and worst of all most people don’t seem to care or believe long Covid is real and expect you to just suck it up. The brain fog is real. This video also didn’t mention it but also increased need of using the bathroom. Many days just doing basic upkeep makes you exhausted. Constantly sore. Heart, lungs, and it feels like kidneys have pain. I find myself making excuses not to see family or friends as much anymore claiming to be “busy” but really I don’t want them seeing how poor my health is. Wish I had health insurance but working since Covid has been nearly impossible. Wish there was resources or something available to help. Feels like I sacrificed my health being an essential worker because I couldn’t afford to take the time off, only for Covid to hit me so hard it caused me to quit working regardless. It felt like a lose/lose situation.

There were similar issues present surrounding the 1918 Flu pandemic. Following it the "Locked In" syndrome(which was absolutely horrifying)was first noticed. I wonder if this is of similar morphological origins and what it means for future efforts in regard to prevention.

It feels like an endless cycle of fatigue and shortness of breathe, no matter how much you sleep. You have almost no appetite, sit on your couch and feel like a piece of sh*t, getting told to go outside even tho trying it 100 Times and always making it worse because we are not able to move, i would even say its worse than beeing paralyzed in a wheelchair, but still we cant give up hope. Eat healthy, no caffeein, dont overdo movement and stop stressing too much.

I got covid on January 5th, 2022 and having long covid ever since. I have a few dozens syndrome from my hair, head to toes, from skin to all my internal organs, from bones to eyesight, from nerves damaged like balance, walking to do basic stuff like forgetfulness, anxieties, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeats, lungs, heart, digestive system, kidneys, liver...every parts of my body is compromised, extreme fatigue, excruciating pain especially around back, hips, knees, bones, muscles. Ohhh god too much to list. I was an active person before covid from running 5 miles, hiking many mountains, biking, ice-skating, dancing, full of life, vibrant, beautiful, fit, successful (I'm 49yrs old ) before covid i look early 20's most people thinks i even looks younger. Everyone thinks I'm a sister with my two daughters (ages 22 & 24 now )after the covid i look like a grandma, my hair turned gray, skin wrinkles, sagged, (whole body turned yellow but it turned back to normal now, ) i have no life, everyday is just a survival day, managing & eliminating the pain, discomfort, breathing day. I don't see any parts of my body that doesn't affect by covid....
To be honest, i want to end my life so many times but i think my daughters need me & i want to be a good mom to them & if they havd kids i want to be a good grandma to their kids. The only things help me with most of tge symptoms are staying outside the sunlight all day.

4 years later, COVID remains a year-round threat. Here's why this virus isn't seasonal quite yet.

Even after so much info about the false stories about COVID and dangerous vaccines is made known and truthful .
This has destroyed any faith in medicine I had about these issues and makes me question all medicine now

I think i am suffering from long covid. Going to dr today to see what he says. I went to a neurologist last month bcuz i thought i was losing it. Wanted to give me ARICEPT for dementia!! I don't have dementia and had a brain scan that showed normal aging but not dementia. So we discussed cerefolinNAC and i bought NAC generic and hope it helps.
I had covid in 2021, hospital gave me antibodies, sotrovimab, intravenously and sent home. Horrible coughing but no pneumonia and they sent me home. Went to DR to monitor my antibody numbers and he said they should have given me antibiotics for coughing up so much phlem. And there was alot of coughing up for a month! He gave me a shot of i can't remember what. So that was 2021. Now 2024 May 31st i test positive for covid. Ten days have past. Today i feel i have long covid or the flu. I can't focus, concentration is bad. Aches and pains, heart palps. Anxiety and anger is high. Mental health is bad. Got anxiety pills that help. I sleep alot more. I stay home all the time worried about sick people outside. People don't realize that ANYONE can give you covid even if THEY don't have any symptoms!! WEAR A MASK AND GLASSES TO COVER YOUR FACE! Lost money, job, stability and so upset. Its unbelievable what i am experiencing.
Scarey and wonder what dr's are really knowing about all these viruses and how to help.

A few years ago after watching its impact on people I know I realized it also causes waves of temporary psychosis and vision problems. Of course we know where the heart thing stems from.

I had covid and it took a week to test negative and another week to get my energy back. For people with long covid fatigue I do feel bad ad I got a taste of it. At the time I was concerned how long it would last but luckily it was short. I will say before I got covid I did take about 10k iu of vitamin D per day for about a year along with magnesium and vitamin K2. This wax likely a huge factor in my quick recovery as many with long covid are vitamin D deficient.
