The more important question is "how can we teach math in a way where students can apply what they learn in a real situation and thus avoid them thinking their time is being wasted."

Finally something I can really support that he is saying: methods, tools, and tactics. Learning how to solve math problems establishes brain wiring used in other problem solving that other methods use.

I worked at a hardware store for years and math really came in handy, especially when calculating areas, perimeter and volume for construction workers, carpenters or for people who were working in their garden.

I wish more teachers would explain this concept in this way. I hated math in high school. In college I couldn't get enough math.

That’s exactly what i keep telling my classmates about maths. It just develops a strategic mindset to find solutions for every complicated situation.

I’m going to college at 34 starting tommorow. I didn’t even go to math class that’s how much I hated it in highschool and middle school. Now that I’m in my 30s I have a deep desire to learn math and an appreciation for it. I am so very excited to learn college algebra, who knows maybe some day I’ll go onto calculus. I truly believe it all comes down to desire discipline and being teachable. Wish me luck

The problem is I’m going to forget everything. And my mind is thinking, I don’t like learning this, I’m not going to try to train my mind to this once I’m done with this

This is true. They should also update the curriculum to include computer programming, taxes and common sense.

When I can't sleep I find a random calculus lecture on YouTube.
Knocks me right out.
Who says math isn't practical?

The best part is that no one tells you that math is important. It’s all numbers until you realize that it’s important
