Tiny Yanmar Diesel Generator 1.5KVA

An opinion/review of a Chinese made micro diesel generator powered by an air-cooled Yanmar engine. Pure Sine Wave 230vac output. Probably the smallest commercially available Diesel generator available.

UPDATE: This generator has been living in a mine for the last six months, running frequently, and giving great service. The pull-start is working great now, I got an aftermarket replacement which is stronger than the factory made one and it starts first time every time now. It's a good strong generator to be honest, runs happily no problem no fuss.

I have got three Yanmar l70 engines.  If one knows how to start them, they are quite easy if your a lil muscle on you. Pull the crank till it stops, push down the decompression lever, give one good yank and off she buzzes. Mine from a cold start will take only one or two pulls.   Wonderful Engines.  Nice vid.  Lil too much negativity for that Engine in my opinion.

Just grabbed a 3.5kW generator from the dump. Needed a piston since it was probably fed gasoline or shot with ether. It runs great and will easily surpass its rating and put out 4kW without straining:)

ive got a 15hp yanmar in my boat. Runs like a dream even though it's from 1974.

throw some injector cleaner in the fuel tank. take the air filter off to start it. i would remove that decompression lever linkage to the secondary lever by the throttle. should not have to crank it a few times with throttle in off position. i put a 12 horse yanmar in my lawn tractor. i just set throttle to max and give it a one pull and it starts. in winter you can take off the air filter and point a plumbing torch or hair drier into the air intake to get things warmed up faster. thanks for uploading. i love diesel engines !!!

I'm surprised being an inverter genset that it doesn't have computer controlled throttle. I picked up a bigger inverter one that controls engine speed, at least it did before obsolete inverter board packed it in. now I want to convert it to a 48v DC battery charger.
I like that one you got though, compact and ready to go.

Do you know what Yanmar engine it uses? Where can you buy it? Is there more information available from the manufacturer?

Panels are great but a gen is nice if your doing laundry, vacuuming or have a week of bad weather. Plus, it will extend your bank life.

This thing is incredibly loud with the single ping sound frequency I’m sure it’s good though.

I think you might be able to prime it with a single drop of petrol and it would start.

Perhaps you could try to spray a little "ether/starting fluid" into the air intake, on the first start.... this might help to get the first few revolutions, and build momentum, and then, it'll be able to start running on pure diesel fuel....(?)...
