The Tagada is a simple ride with a complex history. The earliest roots of the ride can be traced to turn of the century attractions that were essentially just spinning wheels designed to throw riders off them with centrifugal force. This would evolve over time into the Tagada we know today. The modern Tagada is a very dangerous ride, it's so dangerous that it's banned in several countries including the US and Australia.

Tagada was, and still is I think, a legendary ride for people from the 70s or 80s! In Greece, we called it Ταψί (baking pan). I rode Tagada first time in 1997 (14 years old then), the original, merciless one. Tagadas made on the 80s, had smaller in diameter pneumatic arms, resulting very sudden and violent lift ups and drops, and the fact that there was no padding on the seats and bar at all, it was making the experience a real torture! The combination of high rotational speed and simultaneous bounching (both arms following the same movement pattern), could really eject you off the ride. I still remember this experience after so many years, I loved listen the loud hissing sounds while in operation! Our Tagada had only one bar to hold, and it was in the park from the 80s. The modern Tagadas are not so violent, as they use larger in diameter pneumatic arms (so smoother lift ups and drops), more than one bars for riders to hold, and foam pads on the bars and the seats as well. Last time I rode a Tagada was in Germany on 2019, and the experience was nothing to compare with the original Tagada, but still so much fun and nostalgic!

You could workshop a sort of seat where the rider is restrained into the seat, but the seat itself can bounce around on elastics/springs/bumpers to give some of the same feeling. Furthermore the operator's choices could be limited to scripted and tested sequences of motions.

This sounds like hell. But like... it also sounds fun? I'd be too scared to go on one though
