Forspoken preview: Square Enix's big new game is fun, but frantic

After multiple delays, Forspoken, Square Enix’s next big game is almost here. is the first game to come from the development team that made Final Fantasy XV – a game that came out in 2016. We spent over five hours working our way through several of the early game chapters, exploring the mystical land of Athia. While we know the magical attacks in Forspoken are spectacular, it was the one-on-one battle with Sila, the Tanta of Strength, that made the biggest impression – and the best showcase for Forspoken.

So, like the demo, the more you play the better it gets? I've seen so many gripe about the demo and it's so obvious that they didn't learn anything about the gameplay and menus beyond the obvious.

I’m really baffled by people making it seem like the magic options are overwhelming, like…. Really…. Has anyone played Horizon Forbidden West? That weapons menu was waaaay heavier with options on top of options, this is a cake walk after mastering that. It may be too late but the game doesn’t give all its golden nuggets so to speak to the player. I found myself accidentally doing moves I didn’t even know you could do which made me experiment with just about every magic option. The coupling of dodging and attack is this games bread and butter, it’s not something you will be doing when you first play it, that’s for sure. I think this game will do well. It’s not going to win any awards but it’ll make decent numbers and if they do make a part 2 then they have a lot to go with on a positive end before negative.

This game seems like a mess. Played the demo, first of all the hdr/brightness seem like the worst calibrated I’ve ever seen, by default the sky on ps5 is basically pure white and the settings for adjusting this are super limited in game. Most modern games allow you to edit the paper white, and maximum hdr brightness but this game can’t.
The movement is fun, that’s about all I can say positive about it. It’s unfortunate because the protagonist looks cool but the writing is so bad.

People who question her cursing do not know NYers lol, we curse a lot ok.. even if we're being playful or funny we still curse. She's been pulled from NY into this fantasy world she's not going to fit in, she's still herself from NY but in a fantasy world with a magic cuff, this is more realistic than her coming to this world and being someone completely different, people want realistic? welp there you go!

For how many times it appears, you'd think they'd have used a more subtle visual effect than "VULNERABLE"... Between the damage text spam and the swearing, I think I'd struggle to maintain a healthy sense of disbelief.
