Tapas, It's a short word. But it is the basis of your penance, your sadhana. Nothing is unachievable with tapas. An understanding of the self is possible with penance, just studying is not tapas. So, what is Tapas. Let us head to Srimad Bhagavad Gita where Krishna beautiful expounds on the three types of tapas. Satvic, Rajasic and Tamsic. When you let go of simplicity, you are then burdened to live your life a certain way, according to others. Show off is always for others. See the discourse of 38 minutes for more.
