I think the main reason the universe is always expanding is because it’s trying to get away from cockroaches

Imagine being immobilized in a dark space under pile of rubble after an earthquake and you hear the scratchy sounds of the tiny feet of giant cockroaches approaching. It's like a scene from a horror movie. Maybe the cyborg roaches should carry tiny speakers that play music to announce who they are, as opposed to increasing trauma of an already traumatic event.

A cyborg cockroach skitters out from under the fridge and says “John Connor, come with me if you want to live…”

There's actually a niche but infamous YouTube channel called Backyard Brains that has been doing robo-roach stuff for over 11 years now, it's pretty wild that this has "caught on" (if that's the right phrase for it)

I wonder if the researchers have seen his channel or were at all inspired by it.

I’m not an animal rights activist or anything.. but between zombi inducing fungi and now us, it seems insects’ right to free will is being seriously questioned!

I like that he'll cover things like this as well as the space related stuff

I can count on Anton for really bringing the science home

Funny how they fitted a cockroach, an insect that loves the dark, with a solar panel. Anton did point this out, but I was thinking that the power might likely run out while the insect was under the rubble, and then the same problem that we had of the pollution would not be solved. Unless the cockroach decides to get some sun and the signal comes back online, then the controllers would be like, "hey hissing Hank is back online!" 🙂

scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should

Glad to see them spending money wisely I think cyborg cockroaches is what we were definitely missing in the world.

If a cyborg cockroach tried to save me from a collapsed building, I would still squish it. Take me now, Lord.

Anton: "potentially saving lives in the future."
me: "death doesn't seem so bad tbh."

I just love the way you look somewhere off camera, terrified of the thought that somebody could use those cockroaches in malicious ways 5:28

There's some really cool and also horrifying things this could lead to.

When you realize the Warhammer 40k idea of taking a human brain (and the skeletal skull, for structural support) and jamming it into a machine or vehicle, because AI is hard to do and its better to just have a real human brain operate the machine, was not just scifi, but actually a prediction of where we're headed.
Yikes.

The plan to use cyborg cockroach to examine rectal polyps and colon cancer has been met with some resistance, and is put on hold for the time being.

Brings to mind the cockroach remote spying scene in The Fifth Element (1997) movie. SF becomes science fact!

I miss my hissers. They were great pets. I even had a few trained to come back to me if released in house. I'm glad to see their antenna weren't cut for this particular interface.
