I worked at oriellys for 7 years, i know people who would put rtv or buy a bag of gaskets (a gasket would cost at most $1.00 usd) so for like $7-$10 for back ups. I think this is a cool video though

I would assume that the seal wasnt the best, but it was able to seal well enough to work. In general it works but its only a good idea if its your only option

That's a thermostat. A thermistor is an electronic component.

I just buy gasket paper and make all my own gaskets, except for head gaskets and exhaust gaskets

Just rtv that back on. Forget the gasket.

What parts store are you dealing with that requires them to order a thermostat gasket? Just asking so I dont go there.
