Killing 10 innocent puppies to determine "sleep important" is most definitely a waste of life

I cannot stand hearing about defenseless animals being harmed. Shocking puppies and be heading rats - how can a human be so easily coerced into such cruelty. People just really suck.

"If you're watching this at 3am, please try to get some rest" well good thing it's 6am

The learned helplessness experiment is depressing, but that one actually does give extremely valuable insight into the psychology of abuse victims.

I went 8 days without sleep while in a hospital. A massive infection had my lower left leg splitting from swelling. Blisters, drainage and a level of pain that can't be described. Day 5 is when madness hit. The lack of pain control and no sleep was brutal. I had PTSD before this. There are people in the medical world that are pure evil.

I think we can all conclude that sleep is important without subjecting helpless puppies to these cruel and barbaric sleep deprivation “experiments”. This is just fkn sad.

Every other experiment is like "let's torture puppies." Crikey...

Then the baby and the 13 year old must have carried scars for the rest of their lives.

Felt bad for Albert. Messing with a baby’s mind so early on just sad

At this point, I'm just convinced that to be a psychologist in the 20th century, one of the requirements was to already be a socio/psychopath

For little Albert, I learnt this in my psychology class. He actually passed away at the age of 6, I think, of unrelated conditions. He was a sickly child and had other health issues

Psychology is interesting, but very sad. Most of our knowledge comes from horrible experiences and traumatic experiments. I'm in my honours year of university studying psychology and I love it, but damn it does get sad.
We were told that 'Albert' died very young, of some kind of brain swelling (unrelated to the experiments). Not sure if that is correct or not, but strange to hear that maybe he lived to old age without knowledge or lasting effects from the experiments.

This is hard to watch. How can people be so cruel. It’s sick.

You know what else is weird? Language deprivation experiments, known as "The Forbidden Experiments." Throughout history you've had people that would try to raise children without any language to see if they can find the roots of it. Interesting, but extremely cruel considering how much human contact would have to be withheld.

I love how the last couple straight up said “we are psychologically scarred from psychologically scarring these puppies”

As a psych major, I loved that you covered these. Obviously these were highly unethical and immoral experiments, so to learn what Not to do and also what the ethics were back then (aka ethics thrown out the window) is always interesting.

Hand-in-hand with the "Little Albert" study is "The Monster Study.". Horrible what was done to kids.

Learned helplessness is why abuse victims may not seek out help. it's a tough thing to unlearn, too.

I think a lot of people today would refuse to cut off a rats head, but back then I think a lot of people took care of livestock and had to put down the animals that they were going to eat, so probably not as traumatizing.

Ironically, the scientists that preformed the sleep deprivation experiments on the puppies probably couldn’t sleep at night afterwards

I just think psychological tests like these just prove that the testers are truly ill
