CrossCode is an action RPG that is slightly inspired by retro games. Yes it has that 2D style and 16 bit graphics but that's it. Beyond that the combat is incredibly dynamic and the puzzle dungeons are well done. I can't believe more people aren't screaming from the rooftops about CrossCode! There's a lot of MMO mechanics that might turn people away?

I haven’t played all that many games, so this might say less than it would if someone else were saying it, but CrossCode’s plot made me care more about the player character than any other game I’ve played.

I totally forgot this came out today! I've played a bit at before on an old PC, but I'm definitely gonna pick it up on Switch.

This game is amazing, I've been shouting for a year trying to get anyone and everyone to play it.
I think my biggest disagreement here is on the platforming, I loved the platforming sections and they felt just fine to me. But here's the thing, almost all of the platforming is optional. All it ever does is get you to treasure chests and to be honest, my biggest complaint of the game is the treasure is all useless. I still got every chest in the game because I enjoyed solving the puzzles of the platforming sections.

The platforming sections were added puzzles to the game, and almost always (not all of them) optional.

"Gear... Isn't that important" maybe the stuff you buy, but the gear from traders actually have interesting buffs. One of my favorite buffs is called reposte (I think that's how it's spelled), and it resets the parry window on every successful parry, allowing you to parry a swarm of attacks. short of the long... gear can help a lot

Passed on this when it was on Gamepass but got the deluxe on sale and its truly amazing. Read the biggest drawback are the puzzles late game so ill be sure to use the puzzle slider because im not gonna pull my hair out trying to do them late game

I bought this game on early access, one the best buy in that format with no doubt. An amazing game, the gameplay is so awesome.
Secrets of grindea is another really good action RPG I also bought on early access. Two amazing games.

Already played it, but I'm currently waiting for the devs to release the post-game chapter. The ending of the game is neat, but somewhat lacking, and the devs are going to address that with a post-game update which from what I've heard is going to be freaking insane. Great review also. Always nice to see someone give this game more coverage. It's an underrated gem for sure!

Playing on PS4 and absolutely loving the game! I personally quite enjoy the platforming...my gripe is that it's just too easy to amass consumables and gold so after the first area it never felt necessary to choose what I was going to upgrade or purchase.

I have never played an MMO and actually actively avoid them, but this game speaks to me. I really liked the whole setup with the game in a game story.

The platforming is easily my least favorite aspect of the game. My biggest problem with it is that it isn't always obvious what the relative heights of platforms are. There are a lot of places where it looks like you should be able to make a jump, but you can't. And if you fall, there's often a long trek back to the starting point.

I've been enjoying the game quite a lot. I personally have a few things I would like to see different though. To me the dungeons are too long. I'm the kind of guy who hates to stop playing mid-dungeon, but these dungeons are very long. All of the puzzles in each room are well done and fun, but by the end of a dungeon I am so tired of them. I would have liked them to break the dungeons up, even keeping the same number of puzzles but not in such long marathon stretches. Personally, I am not a huge fan of the retro 16 bit art direction, though the games looks great in that style. I would have liked it more with more polished art throughout, say like Hollow Knight did. Granted, that's a matter of personal taste. I agree wholeheartedly about the platforming though. The game depends so heavily on platforming and different tiers of height, yet that 2.5d perspective doesn't communicate well. I waste a lot of time missing jumps that look doable, but aren't because of the combination of retro art style and the camera perspective. In my perfect version of this game, it would be built in 3d and the camera would be mostly-locked in 2.5d with a little bit of play to help you see the platforming better. Still, it is a great game for sure.

The Switch version has the worst controls they dont even use the dpad for movement like every other 2d game out there does. There should have been at least an option for it. Especially with all the platforming in this game(there is ALOT of it). The Controls with the analog stick are wonky af to the point of frustration sometimes. So yea they missed the ball on the switch version and I do not recommend the Switch version at all for that reason.
