Rebirthing the Global Economy to Deliver Sustainable Development - Roundtable, 23 November 2020

A Roundtable Series of Renowned Economists Convened by the United Nations Secretary-General.

The third and final roundtable in the series Rebirthing the Global Economy to Deliver Sustainable Development will convene some of the most influential thinkers, policy makers and practitioners in the field to reflect and build on the outcomes of the first two Roundtables in the series.

Its objective is to identify concrete recommendations for building a new global economic system founded on social and economic inclusion, equity and environmental justice to help rebirth the world economy and deliver sustainable development for all.

During the meeting, the Roundtable will answer the following questions:

- What immediate actions can be taken to build stronger from the COVID-19 crisis?
- How can we eradicate the systemic inequalities of our global economy and create a new economic system that places equity, inclusion and sustainability front and centre?
- What role should the multilateral system play in this process?

Following an introduction by moderator Nisha Pillai, António Guterres UN Secretary-General will provide opening remarks, followed by Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank. Video remarks and a moderated discussion with the economists will follow. Amina J. Mohammed, thr Deputy Secretary-General will provide closing remarks.

Yes - there is an effective way to invest a lot of money. The Muhammad Yunus-inspired models - building education structures and small business enterprises for small people (poor people) to manage and learn by organizing their own small enterprise or business, learn in action - to register, supply and organize a shop, salon, etc. And also continuing re-skilling efforts. I want to be a teacher to help people see the opportunities around in our country, because the sensation of being desperate is the worst thing i have experienced in people around me, especially elderly. There are ways to continue being in the new economy and new world NOT by being younger, but by adopting a new pride in oneself and taking up jobs that keep elderly people afloat and not get them depressed and feeling helpless because of lack of communication, being isolated in their house, not having money for treats and for going to the cinema, or not being educated in the possibilities to make themselves entertained with help of the new technologies etc. This is the worst crisis around here, Everyone else is able to do things in the economic sense that everybody is in, but elderly people have different culture and they expect the money to be provided in a different structure - not by hustle, but by honor, by being consistent, calm, positive, even though you expect a small salary. but the values are not in the amount, it is in the inclusiveness - they want to be seen as useful even though they have gone through so much and are no longer as fresh as a teenager, and that is normal. this is very important to be understood because lots of children are being raised by elderly people and they start to think in similar ways about working, too. this might be archaic but how come it is not financially addressed.

Elderly people need security because they can not move fast and in the new technology way, and they dont need to be forced to. young people sometimes rely on their elderly relatives. if there is loans for accommodation, relocation for a job, etc, it would give me an opportunity, personally for example. because i have nowhere to live when i don't have a job, as currently. also bias towards wanting to be a farmer should be addressed. i might be happier stay in the village of my grandmother and be a teacher there, or work in the shere of culture there, but the problem is lack of infrastructure again - my desire to spend my knowledge, eergy an dpotential with people from a smaller region in the smae country, are being stopped ebcause tehre is no infrstructure for that - people dont embrace capitalism but live in an outdated ideal of the political sistem, becaus ethey have been raised in a dictatorship regime. i cant even help within my own communnity. so the only way to be helpful is to opt for humanitarian jobs and trying to provide help to developing countries, i personally am completely frustrated by this because for me it is obvious that there are possibilities where i am. yet whenever i try to implement them, i get abused and i dont get ny support financially for doing it.

so when trying to go with the flow of what is considered normal, i eneded up ina dead end again. and it is disgraceful to not be able to earn money when i have goe to tens of interviews in the past months and years, a nd there is MONEY AND TEHRE IS BUSINESS OBVIOUSLLY. I JUST WANT TO FIND MY PLACE IN THE ECONOMY - POSSIBLY IN HAVING A NEW KIND OF JOB, NOT APPLYING FOR WHAT COMPANIES ARE OFFERING. PEOPLE LIKE ME AREE OPENED, BUT STILL I NEED TO JUSTIFY SOMEHOW MY DESIRE FOR FINNCIAL SUPORT. THERE IS NO WAY TO GET A LOAN FROMA BANK WITHOUT HAVING A CONTRACT AND WORK IN BULGRIA. THERE IS NO TRANSPARENCY. HOW CAN I START WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT I WANT TO DO - IF I GET MOEY AND HAVE O GUIDANCE HOW TO INVESTIT TIO GET RETURN, I WILL GET NO RETURNL. WE NEED GLOBAL FINANCL EDUCTION. THIS IS MY OPINION. TO BE MORE RESPONSIBLE WITH MONEY WE NEED TO KNOW WHICH INVESTMENTS ARE WISE AND WHICH ARE UNDESIREBLE. IM SPEAKIGN OUT OF A PRIVILIGED POSITION - BUT IT IS STRANGE FOR A EPRSON WITH EDUCATION, GOD LOOKS AND GOOD SKILLS TO NOT HAVE A SUITABLE OR ANY JOB FOR YEARS. THSI IS ME. BECAUSE USUALLY IT IS FULL OF PEOPLE WHO NEED LESS LUXURY YET HAVE CONSTANT NEEDS, BASIC NEEDS - FOR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION A DFOR MEDIUMS TO CREATE AND EXPLORE KNOWLEDGE, ART TECHNIQUES, RELIGION, PSYCHOLOGY AN DOTHER DISCIPLINES, AS MANAGEMENT OF ART, FINANCING FOR CULTURE, ETC. ITS HARD TO OPERATE IN A FRAMEWORK OF THE PROBLEMS OF OTHERS WHEN YOUR BASIC CULTURAL NEEDS ARENT MET, TOO. IM JUST STATING THIS BECAUSE EVERY INDIVIDUAL HAS EQUAL RIGHT TO GET ACCESS TO WHAT MAKES THEM BE THEMSLVES, AND THAT INCLUDES ARTISTS ANR CULTURE LOVERS. I FIND SOLACE IN THE INTERNET, BUT I WOULD RATHER BE A TRAVELLING PHOTOGRAPHER AS DAN ELDON AND TO EXPRESS THE EMOTIONS OF ISECURITY RIGHT NOW, IN ART FORM, INSTEAD OF STYING IN MY COUNTRY WITH NO WORK BECAUSE NOBODY FEELS THEY CAN HIRE PEOPLE THEY DOT KNOW. THERE IS RACISM WITHI DEELOPED ECONOMIES AS WELL - HIGH CULTURE PEOPLE ARE NOT TOLERATED BY THE BUSINESS SECTOR IN BULGARI. AND THAT IS A SHAME. BECAUSE WE COULD WORK TOGETHER AND LEARN FROM EACH OTHER. I AM REGARDED AS NON IMPORTANT BUT I ASK NOT FOR FOOD, I ASK FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO BE ETACHER AND PROVIDE MY WISDOM TO PEOPLE IN NEED. I SEE THT AS RCISM AND DISCRIMINATION AGAINST KNOWLEDGE AND INTELLIGENCE.

THIS SENSATION OF HOPELESSNESS AND DESPERATION IS FUTILE. IT IS UNNECESSRY. THSI IS WHAT WASTE FEELS LIKE, IN MY OPINION. THIS SITUATION IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE PREVENTED. WE ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING, IF WE ARE INTERNET LITERATE AND SPEAK ENGLISH. aT LEAST IN MY COUNTRY. YET PEOPLE STILL DONT MKE THE MOST OF THESE TOOLS. THEY COMPLAIN THAT THERE ARE O PEOPLE TO DO JOBS OR THAT THERE ARE NO JOBS AVAILABLE. WHILE IN SOME COUNTRIES PEOPLE ARE REALLY SUFFERING BECAUS EOF LACK OF ANY INTELLECTUAL INFRASTRUCTURE TO HELP THEM ADOPT FASTER THE NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND TRANSLATE THEM INTO THEIR LIVES. I CAN BE OF USE IN THAT TRANSLATION. I WANT TO BE A TEACHER, IN THAT SENSE. AND I NEED A JOB.
