What is SUDS? Substance use disorders (SUD) is a treatable mental illness that affects a person’s brain and behavior, causing them to be unable to manage their use of substances such as legal or illicit drugs, alcohol, or prescriptions.

Other Disorders: Substance abuse and SUDs can lead to the development of other mental illnesses. Substance abuse can cause changes in brain structure and function, increasing the likelihood of developing a mental disease.

SUDS and Mental Health: Mental problems can exacerbate substance abuse and SUDs. According to research, persons suffering from mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may self-medicate with drugs or alcohol. However, while certain medications may temporarily alleviate some symptoms of mental problems, they may exacerbate the symptoms over time.

Our team of providers have a wide range of treatment options, one treatment option is our Medication Assistance program. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies.
