The hardest part about getting clean is the lack of comfort from the drugs. And the extreme emptiness and loneliness that drives me back into relapse

Two of my best buddies died of OD back in 2021 and 2022. I’m 2 months clean and now I wanna dedicate my time to help and set awareness of drugs use. As a 23 years old, I personally have set my priority to retire my immigrant parents who are currently working in a warehouse 40+ hours a week. It breaks my heart when I see them tired and hear them getting ready to go to work in this cold weather. Our generation needs to do better. God bless everyone, we can do this💪❤️🙏

I'm sorry about your brother, Brad. Another addict shook me awake because he was coherent enough to. I've been drug and alcohol free for 4.5 years now, only by the grace of Christ Jesus.
I really didn't expect to cry today, but I'm glad I saw this. We all need reminders sometimes.

Brad - hope you see this some day. I recently completed treatment at your Aunt's Rapid Detox clinic to finally get off of Methadone after 12 years. She told me about your work in Seattle... incredible how many people in your family are putting in the work to push back against this horrific epidemic. Best wishes in your fight!

Thank you for sharing this message Brad. Reframing how we see and treat those with substance abuse is important to our humanity.

We NEED more people like, Brad, in Seattle. Thank you for having the convictions you do. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of his brother. May his memory be the fire that keeps burning, so we never leave another person behind. Thank you, again.

a lot of times you gotta hit rock bottom to learn how to ask for help...my rock bottom was waking up literally in the gutter after a 2 week drinking bender after every single friend i had passed me up to let me sleep on their couch. when i woke up i was sitting next to a catholic homeless shelter and the priest who ran it literally thought i was homeless because i hadnt showered or shaved in 2 weeks....when i told him that i had a job and a home he just looked at me, put his hand on my shoulder and said "brother, if you dont get help now, you're not gonna have those for much longer" and that was the kick in the pants i needed...thanks father Gregory....i owe you my life

Why, why doesn't this have more views? More traction? This speaker, full of heart, courage, drive, deserves to be heard by the whole world. Thank you TED, from a substance abuser themself.
