People are scumbags. If you can't afford the actual depreciation, you can't afford the car.

90% of the new cars 2006+ will let you see the actual mileage by plugging in an OBD tool. We had a 2008 F250 diesel and the guy swore it had 100k miles, plugged the scanner in and it showed 238k miles. Sent his ass on his way

For those who didn’t know. That’s a felony charge

You can rollback, but ECU will always show the true mileage. Unless you change the ECU too

This happened 15 or so years ago so the statute of limitations is well over with. A “friend” of mine lol use to go to pick yards, junkyards, and take the speedo’s, instrument clusters, the things that show you your speed, mileage, oil pressure and gas levels out of late 90’s early 00’s model Chevy SUV’s/trucks like Tahoes, Yukons and Silverado’s and he would swap them out on his suv/truck. He would put 20K-30K, he drove a lot for work, and then he would put the original one back before he sold it. I’m pretty sure that my “friend” was not the only one doing this. I’m sure that it’s a lot more difficult to do this in 2023 with all the technology in cars today

My family had a lease take over for a BMW 335i

I have a feeling it was rolled back because a lot of the service warning interval messages would say past due on the 60k what ever check. When the car was still at 50K

We gave it back to the dealer and it wasn’t until a few months later telling it to a friend he said it was most likely a roll back before you got it. Because the sensors measuring everything else was still showing the original KMs

Of its in great shape for a 50k mile car then it would be in amazing shape to be 100k miles

Luckily my scanner checks for mileage manipulation. It’s stored in quite a few different locations that don’t get rolled back. It compares all the different modules and the data from the helps you figure out if it’s got the true mileage.

We used to roll back Every odometer to Zero on our Totally restored Beacham Mk2 Jaguars, but then we had refurbished them better than when they came from the factory. This is the only reason to zero an Odometer. Every other time it’s an excuse to cheat …

I used to want a Lamborghini but then heard it’s like $7 a mile that you drive it and a used $90k lambo doesn’t sound too expensive but a $12k repair bill every other year does not including the regular maintenance

The same applies to aviation parts but with real consequences for doing that
Other ways to know a real car mileage is the changing of parts or a book of maintenance IF exists

trick i always use is to check the TCU. Most transmissions keep a record of the total mileage too. So if it's the original trans, it won't lie.

haha usually an obd2 scan tool can tell you the real mileage if you know where to look. Not just the ECM keeps track of the driven mileage, and to change some of the other computers you need a true OEM scanner which sends a message straight to the manufacturer itself when those numbers have been altered.

Thats a federal felony...if you ever see a cars spedometer not match its computer or something else call the Dont just walk away. Watch him get walked too jail.
Please do something about it. I hate scummy ppl that get away with it
Ive never even contemplated doing someone wrong

If we all start logging the odometers we can see when someone rolls things back

Thanks for explaining how mileage works, that really was confusing to everyone until now.

Back in the day, you just replace the IC with a lower mileage one lol

And this has me thinking that if I ever buy one, I’ll just have to buy new.

I have an idea. Just like a dirt bike etc. We have hours run. Example i have a 40k mile car but with 60k hours running. They idle that vehicle alot more than they have drove it.
