On today's Steam Deck video I will go over how to get Dreamcast games running on your Steam Deck as Sega's final video game console is one of its best! Plus you really can't get enough retro gaming right? Flycast is an awesome video game emulation option that runs both Dreamcast as well as some Sega NAOMI and Atomiswave games...but this tutorial is just for Dreamcast!

Again I recommend getting a Dock for your Steam Deck as the process is MUCH easier that way!

But the Steam Deck is proving to be an amazing retrogaming handheld video game emulation machine and I love it! Emu Deck 2 makes things easy as well!

A little piece of advice: convert your Dreamcast's game roms from .gdi format to .chd using CHDMAN. There are tutorials here on YouTube showing where to download and how to do that (which is very simple).

Marvel vs Capcom 2 went from 1.11 GB (.gdi format) to 152 MB (.chd format).

The amount of space that you will save is insane.

A little tip for the fellow Dreamcasters out there on the Deck. To fix a lot of the texturing bugs (specially in HOD2) go to Quick Settings in Retroarch -> Core Settings -> Video and activate 'Native Depth Interpolation'. ;)

GOOD SIR! When I add games in the folders and then go to parse them there are many copies of the game for every bin/cue/gdi file. How can I fix this? I tried booting each on it's own but they crash. How come when you did it there was only one game but I have one for every single file in the game's rom folder. If anyone can help thanks, been searching online for days trying to get dreamcast to work on my deck, thank you!

I just connected a usb hub to my Steam Deck and transferred roms over from both an external NTFS and a FAT32 HDD without having to format to exFAT.

The official Steamdeck Dock is great. It gets firmware updates straight out of the regular software update menu. It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Great video. I am experiencing flickering and texture problems with my dreamcast games. Also I see what looks like qr codes spinning around processing when I load up some games. I have been trying for days to fix this problem and have found no resolution. Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on the size of your SD/hard drive, I would actually recommend going for CHD first and then go back to the raw folder if it doesn't work. The only reason I suggest this is because, in my experience, CHD works more often than not. And the compression you get is worth it. So I tend to aim for smaller file sizes first, then blow it up if it really needs it. Just my $0.02, though. As long as you get the game playing on your SteamDeck, it's a win!

I've got no issues playing any games when I load them from within Flycast, but for some reason the only games I can't load from the Deck's gaming mode are Dreamcast ones. I add them to Steam with Steam Rom Manager and when I try to load them they just get stuck on the loading screen and I have to restart the Deck. Any idea how I can fix this since it's annoying that I can't have these games listed with all my others?

Hi there! for whatever reason, my steamdeck wont play dc. i have the dc_boot.bin in both bios and dc sub folder. in emudeck, the bios checker recognizes the dc bios but has an "exclaim" emoji next to it, not the green check. thoughts? thank you for the great content btw!!!

Can we not just download our files bios and roms to the deck directly? I suppose the flash drive is important in this step so that it codes the files in a certain way? I've only ever formatted a few cards in my time, it was always fat32 though.

Trying to get this system underway on the deck- hardest one I've dealt with in comparison to psx2, psp, gamecube. How can I get a 7z file over to gdi? I have a chromebook only which is making things a little tricky to say the least.
