Queen’s long career is full of exceptional hits and revolutionary moments, many of which the legendary frontman Freddie Mercury was responsible for. Freddie Mercury’s unmatched vocals are among the most recognizable in rock.

The Queen frontman broke all the rules through his unparalleled voice, outrageous costumes, and electrifying performances.

Freddie Mercury surely is one of rock and roll’s most outrageous and legendary personalities. As the lead vocalist for Queen, the hit-delivering band of the 1980s, Mercury sang in a dazzling voice, pranced across the stage with electric flair, and made lasting waves in the music space.

Everything from his pure relationship with his best friend and surely his inspiration, Mary Austin, and his fierce fight with AIDs, to his ballet-inspired, gender-bending outfits, Mercury followed his own bold path.

I heard he never got his front teeth fixed because they were a critical part of his voice. Such a diverse range of notes. Rest in Peace, Freddie.

Thanks for this video. I was a young teenager when Queen became well known in the 70’s, so I have been a fan for a long time. Love your selection of best Freddie moments but I felt compelled to say that for people who did not live through the 80’s as an adult, they really have no understanding of what the AIDS epidemic was like when it first started to happen, and for some years after, before the illness was understood by everyday people. You have to realize that back then, just letting the world know that you were gay could end your career and/or social life and standing (in some instances, that still happens.) Even now, altho AIDS isn’t necessarily a death sentence, there is still a stigma attached to an AIDS diagnosis. But back in the 80’s, the stigma was incredible. An AIDS diagnosis would not only mean a slow, excruciatingly painful death for that person, it also meant the end of life as you knew it while you still had some time left, cuz once people found out that you had AIDS, your career was over, even for those who did not live in the public eye, cuz people were so afraid if catching AIDS and there was little understanding back then of how the illness was spread. So I can’t lay any blame at Freddie’s feet for not telling the world that he had AIDS until the very end. When he finally decided to report his diagnosis, I doubt that it was a “growth moment” for him, as you said, at all. What growing did he need to do? Do you really think he was immature about it or somehow hadn’t thought it through? That’s ludicrous. I’m sure that he had kept it a secret to protect himself but, and perhaps more importantly, also to protect his bandmates, his family, and his friends. And a lot of people depended on him financially and otherwise. People who did not live through that time can look back on how Freddie handled it and criticize him and say that he should have done it differently, but unless you lived through that horrible, dark time, you have no idea how scary it was and how quickly an AIDS diagnosis would totally ruin people’s lives—not just the person with AIDS, but it also ruined the lives if anyone who continued to be around the diagnosed person cuz they were shunned and ridiculed in ways that would shock most people today. While Freddie was still alive, I think he did his best to protect those he loved; after his death, he was a catalyst for change and AIDS awareness and research. The way he handled it was about as much of a win-win result as anyone can possibly get from a truly lose-lose scenario.

I thought it was an argument with John Reid that made him lose his voice before SNL
