The following video shows you the full process on removing and replacing a transom on a two part boat. The boat consisted of two separate shells of fiberglass one on the top and another on the bottom. This made for a very unique process of repairing the transom that isn't well discussed on youtube.

Good video. I've got a transom to replace. I'm not sure about using plywood though. My problem was water get at the wood from the inside. I'm gonna use coosa board. Heard great things about it from professional boats builders. Stuff never rots and is stronger then plywood but it's costly.

Tbh people say you did a bad job but as long as the outer skin is sealed i dont see this rotting. I see boat transoms rotting from bad motor installs (one thing i will do for mine is fully seal the hole i make. With a good layer of epoxy after i oversize it.). Or left out in the open. The onlything id do a bit different is maybe add 1 sheet before the plywood. Then 1 sheet after the plywood and soak both sides. And remove all the screws and fill with cabosil.

The wax makes a tight seal over the paint so it can finish hardening. JT

question, when you were putting the strips of fiberglass to the transom for closing up the back. did you add wax to it? so it would cure hard?

How not to repair a transom, you need to resin soak and laminate the ply with fiberglass layers in between as well as several other missed steps, You did not know any better but just saying.

You are using a small plybar. To be honest. Sorry to say that but you are using wrong tools at all. Man. You are in the USA. Tools are cheap there. I lived in California and worked as a mechanic for 5 years. You guys have everything when it comes to tools. You cut the plywood wrong. You removed it the hard way too. I can’t say it was wrong because there is no right or wrong way to remove rotten wood but the way you did was the hardest. Your video made me feel sorry for you. Where were you friends to help you out ? Those guys who call you up when you say you will go for a ride on your boat ? lol they disappear. Oh I also remember Americans don’t have friends when it comes to work. Unless you pay. You guys have acquaintances and family. Family is good there. Anyways. Overall you did good, considering the bad tools lmao.
