Roof leak inspection and found wind damage. What are your thoughts? Is it wind damage, or as some adjusters would say bit storm damage. Also, is there enough to file a claim?

Insurance companies in my area have started pro rating roofs for wind damage. Shingle roofs are not covered by about 20 years of age if memory serves. Because so many people took advantage of wind storms to get their old worn out roofs replaced.

Yes, it is wind damage. I do these type repairs daily. "Shiner" nails are great wind damage indicators aswell especially when you receive the call direct;y after the high winds day(s)

Here are my thoughts as an insurance adjuster. There are definitely wind damaged shingles present and nearly all policies would owe to repair/replace the wind damaged shingles. Based on the video I don’t see any hail damage. The shingles obviously have issues with a poor install and have a pretty good amount of wear and tear. I would document all the wind damage I could and you might get that whole slope bought by insurance, I think that’s your best case scenario.

Wind damage is usually due to improper installation nowadays with architectural shingles. 3 tabs are a thing of the past. Yeah it got hit with wind. Patch it in like the guys who used to get on their own roofs. Hail damage on the other hand is super scarry for insurance companies. It's not immediately identified and could easily be missed, then they would be liable for further damages

Jagged patterns looks like vandalism to me with some actual wind damage mixed in.

My garage has 3 tab and a few spots there are tabs missing. could be from wind / storm damage. However, I will say sometimes depending on the bundle you get a messed-up batch of some with a poor tar strip that just don't seal good enough. But with age definitely will lift and create them cracks and creases due to wind. Generally i operate as a feeder, so when i see something questionable / quality it gets put the side maybe it could be used a piece somewhere when that bad portion is cut off.

No tabs found anywhere? No tabs just flipped up and left. All tabs just torn off in a jagged pattern? I’m HAAG certified and that would be questionable.

Insurance companies will beat up anyone unless the roof was relatively new. They'll simply claim it was installed poorly (and we do see many issues) and that the shingles were dried out, so they're denying the claim. In reality, if you use your homeowners insurance to fix a couple dozen broken shingles, you have to pay a deductible - 500/1000/1500$, and your rates go up; That's IF they don't drop you the following year or make it so unaffordable that you have to seek your insurance elsewhere. With little damage like that, people should hire someone to patch it and then they can go over it or replace it in another 5/10 years or however long it lasts. Insurance companies watch out for themselves...

How do you mention insurance when the roof was improperly installed to begin with ? ..I'd charge 100 for the repair & pray to get the whole job in the future.

I would call that wind damage. But if you were an adjuster, I'm not sure id want to cover the entire replacement. It's clearly pretty burnt up and needing replaced anyways

if you deal directly with the insurance company they will pay you 400-500 just to temp that roof until the adjuster makes it out

That’s wind damage. Doesn’t matter if the seal is bad or the install was poor. The wind finished the job, therefore it’s wind damage. Problem is you could get another adjuster see it a different way (e.i. It’s old wind damage) but any adjuster that’s looking to help the policy holder will make the case to total that roof. Just make sure there are no prior claim first…

The rusty flu pipe is a maintenance issue - not a result of a storm ... it's just old. As such, it's not covered by insurance. The homeowners will need to contribute and install a new replacement.

My roof was hailed out. Insurance paid 32000.00 to have it replaced. I just got a notice that my insurance cost will increase 1000.00 a year. Insurance companies are crooks.

Poor Jake, he should've just shut his mouth. I wonder if he's still got a job at State Farm. If I was an executive, I would've immediately terminated his employment and done serious (storm) damage control.
