i am father of two, 32yo and still i think i am not ready to be father . It is ok to be scared to be a dad, that means you take it seriously . And best of luck to the new family .

Tired of people in the comments shaming the caller for having a kid at 22. By the way he’s concerned, it was probably unplanned (as many pregnancies are). He’s smart enough to ask Dave for help and living frugally (ex: living with parents temporarily, paying off debts, accepting he needs to work more), which is probably unlike half the people in the comments currently that just load up their credit cards. Props to this guy, he’ll be a great father

I don't think anyone truly says they're 100% ready to be a parent 🤷‍♂️

My son is five I remember being terrified becoming a dad and being responsible for another life. My one full time job at the time didn't cover child care so i got a second job delivering pizzas then realized I'll make more tips and not kill my car doing valet at the local casino. I made enough in tips to cover daycare and take truck driving lessons to get my CDL fast forward five yrs to today I have a great career that pays great, day care is over I'm almost debt free and the kid is still in one piece lol you'll be alright you can do it

I’m 26 and had my first a year ago. It’s hard but rewarding. Just do what you gotta do and keep things light.

Being scared is okay. Yes 22 is young but despite what these comments may lead you to believe..taking the first steps towards getting your finances together means you’re in a better mindset than a lot of the 30somethings I know. I wish you two the best. Good luck!

I had my first kids (twin girls) at 22 by choice, and it’s been tough, but I have to say I wouldn’t do it any other way. So many great blessings from having kids. just be ready to put in the work!

I never cried cuz my dad worked 2, 3 jobs for us to have things. My mom mommed and had a job. My dad killed himself working to provide for the family. I am truly blessed to know what hard work can do.

Get a second job now, get in a new routine, you'll all get into a schedule, speaking from experience

OMG! So true about turn the TV off! I'm a single mom, and it feels like there isn't enough of me to go around. When I'm tired info turn in the TV, and always regret it the next day. I feel as if wasted the evening, because I did!

David doesn’t stop to surprise me. I thought he was gonna go off!!! Instead he gave him the advise of a father, some tough love and words of encouragement at the end.

So true about the TV. Or phones for most nowadays. Whenever I get that feeling like I'm burning the candle at both ends and spread so thin I'm gonna burn out. I take a media fast for a week. Its amazing how much free time that gives me. I go from burning out with not enough time in the day to trying to figure out what new project I wanna try now with all this free time, lol

You will never be "ready" to have a kid! Financially it can be overwhelming but it is possible. When creating a budget, also be sure to factor in unexpected expenses. My daughter had a medical situation that ended up costing me THOUSANDS of dollars. So planning is a must!

I was born when my dad was 44. First time for him too !! He told me he was terrified even though he was married and ready in life. He told me children make your life for the better (for him at least). I honestly don’t think anyone is totally ready in life to become a parent but when it happens, you get to it. Good luck to you Jacob! Do your best:)
