Ⓕ Chamfer & Bevel Jig For Dowels (ep91)

preview_player
Показать описание
I was adding a chamfer or chamfering the ends to some wood dowels on my spindle sander. To make the bevel consistent I decided to make a beveling jig to help make the process quicker and easier. I suppose anything to make sanding more tolerable. Jigs are something any maker seems to build. Sometimes for one off projects, other times for repeatable long term use.

Nick: What a clever use of scrap lumber! Jigs and things really speed up your work! These tips are almost as useful as your project videos! Thanks for posting!

Nick, that is indeed a slick jig for putting a chamfer on the end of a dowel. Thanks for posting this because I’ll be needing to chamfer the end of some dowels in a few weeks. In the past I’ve just free handed them. This jig will make them look a lot better.

Thank you Nick. Nice jig. I made one and use it now for a project that I make several of. Makes a nice finished look.

Thanks, Nick. I had no idea that those belts at markets were for finger strengthening. If you put objects in the way, you could even create an obstacle course!!!

That is a great simple jig to get quick consistent results (whatever the shape). I had a project where I needed to round over one end of a bunch of dowels. I used my router table and its fence as my V-groove and the bearing on the round-over bit as the stop block. To make a shorter piece, I did the round-over on a long dowel, then cut it to length, and then smoothed the opposite end by hand.

I’ve done a lot of bevels on dowels but mostly free hand bevels never thought of making a dowel beveling jig. Sure makes all your bevels nice and uniform bevels. Great beveling tip Nick can’t wait use this idea next time I’m beveling dowels. Just another great tip from you Bro... awesome 👍👍

Thanks Nick, another freehander here. But the few minutes invested in the jig is less time looking for the one that flew out of my hand. Thanks again for another helpful tip. Dean Kramasz
