Somewhere nice around there (but a bit of a drive) is Framlingham Castle. That's the castle referred to in Ed Sheeran's song "Castle on the hill".

How about a good "chippy". I remember a half century ago, they were everywhere and served right on top of the newspaper. Skip the American places, they'll be back here when you come home. A good carvery is great also and Bury has one of the best near the Abby. The Indonesian places are excellent also and don't forget the great food in the pubs.

Burgers: If you want to spend a bit more there's high end burger joints like Gourmet Burger Kitchen on Regents Street, "Big Eds Easy Diner"  one floor up in the Grand Arcade is a repro 1950s style American diner with high end burgers, hot dogs and malts and shakes to die for and they do this fantastic cheesy sauce over their chunky fries.
The Red Bull pub on A603 Barton Road used to do some nice "pub grub" and I had me a lovely "Cajun Burger" there a few times. Dunno if they still do.
For autentico Italian food, La Pergola further along the A603 Cambridge Road, about 4 or 5 miles west of Cambridge is run by an Italian family and you'll get the real deal Italian cuisine, much more than just pizzas but they have a proper pizza oven too, ovviamente, you won't get your British/American deep pan here though. Look for the "Wheatsheaf" pub sign as it's in an old coaching inn.

Getting stationed there soon. Lucky because I love football(soccer) and decent food and travel and going to Irish pubs. I've been to Europe before and the food there is just miles better, even a tomato tastes different, in a good way lol. The only thing that US has the rest of the world beat in is food is available 24/7 and its easily accessible and quick, the 2nd amendment. I'm gonna miss my guns, and maybe also some good ole' fashioned ribs. But other than that, good riddance.
