I relate to this so hard. It’s always the people who never call out and are always available that get the most flak for wanting to take off, even when it’s absolutely necessary. My old, old boss used to guilt trip me into taking less time off just so the front desk could be covered.

My former boss that just left the company was the best boss I ever had in my entire life. She believed in taking mental health days and just taking off just because you had the time. I have never felt so refreshed and mentally clear because I didn’t have to be at my job for 52 weeks straight. I’m going to miss her so much and moving forward I’ve seen the light and I’m gonna stand up for myself from now on.

This is how you have to be at these jobs. It amuses me to no end when these higher ups think I'm putting a question mark at the ends of my time off entries. It was a statement. There was not a yes or no option available. 🤣

This is exactly how it is though. I'll never forget when my dad had emergency heart surgery, I told my district manager that I would be taking immediate FMLA leave to help support my family (because my mother unfortunately also had cancer at the time and my father would be unable to help with her appointments as well as take care of himself), my boss said "okay" and then called me 2 hours later to ask if I could come in to work for 30 minutes or an hour every day. I told him no, that's not an option, and then he texted me every day asking when I'd be back working. Never went back to that job.

lmao I feel that, that's why I be telling people I need certain days off to do something and if they ain't cool with it their company can burn for all I care. Some companies don't understand that a unhappy employee breaking their back doing their best for you needs to be showed appreciation and that they'll stay if you get rid of the problems making them unhappy at the company.

You never ask for time off. You tell your superior that you are going to take your time off. You’re legally obligated to get it, they can argue among themselves about it.

In New Zealand we get 4 weeks mandatory leave a year. Don't even need to ask the boss sometimes. Just schedule your leave through an app. We value lifestyle balance

This is why when I need mental/ stress relief time off; I go to my doctor and get a stress relief doctor's note. I do not even try to negotiate with these stubborn and heartless managers.
