This is quite possibly the most asinine profile of a multinational conglomerate I've seen in recent years. Let's ignore the fact that much of its early wealth was derived by overseeing British colonial trade interests in Africa. Unilever literally acquired the United Africa Company which was responsible for the extraction of palm oil at very low cost (thanks colonialism) while decimating forests in West Africa. In fact, they continued to receive criticism right up to the 2010s for their levels of deforestation. (Sidenote: look up the history associated with the United Africa Company and the Royal Niger Company merger). Let's also ignore the human rights abuses on Kenyan tea plantations. The company breached its obligation to remediate human rights abuses to which it had contributed leading to a complaint by Kenyan workers to the United Nations in 2020. This is just the tip of the iceberg. To assert that it's committed to sustainability and social responsibility is laughable at best.

Unilever sold the tea business to a PE. So it no longer owns Lipton
