This is an unconfirmed "true" story. It's an urban legend well known in the 1950s. The name of the ship SS Ourang Medan is translated into Man of Medan (Which is also a name of a popular horror game *inspired by this story*). It's a merchant Dutch-Indonesian cargo ship.
The story was that SS Ourang Medan sent out distress signals, morse codes that say "We float. All officers including the captain, dead in chartroom and on the bridge. Probably whole of crew dead." following by some incoherent signals and ends by "... I die". When 2 American crew got the distress signal, they come to rescue just to find the Ourang Medan unharmed with the entire crew all lying dead on their back, on the deck. Their eyes wide open and their teeth unbared. Their corpse were also without a scratch. When the ship was being towed for further investigations, it spontaneously combusted and exploded.

There were some articles that described the sole survivor of the crew, an unnamed German, saying that the ship was smuggling illegal sulfur acid and the crew died because of the fumes from the broken containers. Some theories hypothesizes that the Ourang Medan was smuggling nerve toxins and nitroglycerin that Japan was storing in China at the time, which caused the strange deaths of the crew and the destruction of the ship.

Edit: It's not a story that comes from a game. The story originated from a US Coast Guard document. The ship was also referred to in an earlier mention in a New Yord Times magazine. Some pieces of information came from Dutch newspapers and the story of the survivor came from an Italian newspaper.
