It’s an underrated masterpiece, although I can understand people’s criticisms of it being a bit slow. Yet, the director wants you to soak up and empathize with Julie Ann’s character in every single situation. Her performance is a revelation, as she was relatively unknown in 1995.

Fair enough. Your review was well done. Six months ago, I saw a Julianne Moore interview about the film 'May December, ' and I was blown away by the film, her performance (along with Natalie Portman's), and her praise of Todd Haynes. Moore raved about 'Safe' and I had to watch it. I'm watching his filmography to understand Haynes' methodology. 'Persona' is next on my list. It's one of the Ingmar Bergmann films that inspired 'May December.'

I wasn't too hooked on this film, but I still somewhat enjoyed it. The acting and atmosphere were my highlights.

Great film. Highly underrated, but not for everyone. I thought the ending was really thought provoking. Has a real psychological edge to it around mortality, sickness, obsession, modern life and hypochondria. Todd Haines is an interesting director aswell. Great review.

also- i think that place was a psychward/detox center
mainly cus nobody else had her "ailments" - they had all sorts of other things

Very dark and a very good movie with an incredible theme, but the ending is very underwhelming and a bit dull. Nonetheless a great movie, good review.

It’s boring. It says a whole lot about nothing. I understand the idea of what the director was going with but it was just boring. And it did not invoke any stress or anxiety from me because the movie never allows you to care about these characters, at all. Even Julianne’s character I just don’t care about.
