It's beyond awe inspiring to me that people landed there in the 1960s. We only invented powered flight 60 years before that. A person who watched that on TV and was 90 years old could remember being at school before radio or automobiles. Those astronauts were incredibly brave.

You can actually place all the planets in between Earth and Moon including Mercury if you turn Jupiter on its side...I guess..

Ok, the question is - with the Moon being so far away from the Earth. How does the moon cast such a small shadow on Earth when there’s a solar eclipse?! 🤷🏻‍♂️
***The closer an object to a surface, the smaller the shadow. The further the object, the bigger the shadow - the closer it is to a light source. If it was that far away, the shadow wouldn’t be as small as it is.
• If an object is close, it has a small shadow. If an object is far, it has a large shadow. The shadow cast on Earth from the moon during an eclipse is small… perspective is key! 🔑 👑

Despite this "great distance"; when NEOs pass between the Earth and the Moon, it will always be alarming (to me) considering the absolute size and entirety of space. We are nothing but a gnat on a frog's behind.

Thats crazy that all the planets bar the smallest would fit in between. I knew the distance, 261, 000 miles but never thought of it in that scale! Nice.
