Part 1) Mercury contamination index to estimate the risk in public health from ASGM, organized by Pure Earth Colombia

In Colombia, several mercury-contaminated sites represent a risk to public health. Not all sites have the same degree of contamination, so it is important to prioritize which needs urgent intervention. In order to improve the Blacksmith Index of Pure Earth a new mercury contamination index was developed involving parameters like population demographics, mercury concentration in soil, water and air. This index helps in the decision making of government agencies to prioritize intervention plans.

Part 2) CSF's Mining Impacts Calculator: Addressing the Impacts of Illegal Gold Mining in the Brazilian Amazon, organized by Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF)

Join Pedro Gasparinetti, Brazil Director of Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF), in a presentation on the landmark Mining Impacts Calculator, developed by CSF in collaboration with the Federal Public Prosecutors’ Office of Brazil to easily and efficiently calculate the estimated monetary value associated with the impacts of illegal gold-mining activities. Pedro will also share details from his team’s recent methodological assessment on the impacts on human health resulting from these mining operations.
