If you're just starting out with servers, there's a website for cheap VPS deals called LowEndBox. You can get super cheap ones and practice your Linux minimalism. I host my KeePass file with nginx on 512mb ram, but I only pay $6 a year :D That's an openVZ instance with root access and a unique IP.

FYI : 11:55 you can attach any email service under YT a/c to create one but Google automatically built a gmail a/c there during that procedure and you need to verify to activated that full gmail service :)

Don't know if DreamHost would give you what you want, but I use them for shared hosting. Their control panels are ridiculously intuitive and built in-house (no CPanel). Not part of EIG.

What are peoples thoughts on Mega as a cloud service? It offers 50gb free and it encrypts your data. I believe it also has encrypted voice and video chat. Do you guys use Mega or is it a no no?

TWRP replaces your stock RECOVERY, not your Bootloader.

Why not run NextCloud on your own in-house server? Are there significant downsides that I may be missing?
