Why does the universe exist? Neil deGrasse Tyson and comedian Chuck Nice answer fan questions about black holes, wormholes, the expansion of the universe and more! What are our options to solve the crisis in cosmology?

Can we answer the question: why does the universe exist? We discuss the meaning of life and get scientific and philosophical with it. Is it all just physics? What happens to matter when it reaches the singularity and not just the event horizon? Learn about Hawking radiation and spaghettification and the mysteries that still persist.

What’s the deal with the green comet? Find out about Oort cloud comets and where the comet gets its green. How big does an asteroid have to be to blow an atmosphere off a planet? What would happen if you pointed a laser pointer at a black hole? We explore gravitational redshift, time dilation, as well as how artificial intelligence will perceive the universe. Could we establish a wormhole for interstellar travel?

Discover the Big Rip and where the heat energy emitted from stars goes. Is the universe getting colder? We weigh the options for resolving the crisis in cosmology, how the JWST impacts it, and whether we are alone in the universe. Plus, find out time travel theories on how the Titanic really sank.

Thanks to our Patrons Fadi Hayek, Kemlyn Brazda, pascale manales, Jules Martin, and Scott Alderman for supporting us this week.

NOTE: StarTalk+ Patrons can watch or listen to this entire episode commercial-free.

You're tagging walls and trains. Neil is tagging the cosmos. Man is on another level.

Your laser beam is not on the way to that star. It is on the way to where that star was years, decades or even millennia in the past.

Professor Tyson is one of the best teachers you could ask for... Humble, passionate, creative, full of life and curiosity...

They are the epitome of inspiration and curiosity. Just seeing Chuck's eyes and face light up by understanding something Neil just taught is my favorite. You see the light bulb 💡 in real time.

I love when the silliness of Chuck makes Neil drop his head to process and gather himself.

I hope this duo never end. Love the dynamics of them both. Chuck is like the average Joe. The way his mind clicks when Neil explain things is exactly how my mind works. Can't get enough of this channel

I love the cosmic queries of just Neil & Chuck with no guests. Reminds me of old Startalk episodes from 2013 that were audio only

I think the last guy’s question was trying to ask about Quasars… I had no idea they were interconnected with supermassive black-holes until a 1AM research-rabbit-hole pulled everything together

I think the “why” is a more philosophical question than scientific. If Albert Einstein was working on a unifying theory of “everything, ” it means that understanding the “why” sometimes May not be that simple. But I like how Neal expounded on why the question may just be an opening to the rabbit hole. 👍🏿

I always thought 47 was the answer to the question of what the meaning of life was.

That was an EXCELLENT answer to the WHY question. When you put an intent to something that never had an intent, it creates a wild goose chase.

I actually thought I was the only person who "tagged" space. Thank you for making me feel like I'm not the only one who uses light beams as graffiti for other the inhabitants of other planets to enjoy.

0:53 - Chuck's attempt at poetry was a SOLID B+! The imagery of snowfall, including the held belief that no 2 snowflakes are identical, was beautiful. 😉
