The Afghan National Army Officer Academy (ANAOA) has turned out over 2,600 commanders, 90 of whom are women. But by 2023 they want women to make up 10% of the 190,000 strong force. Armed Forces Minister Mark Lancaster said: "We will continue to support the ANAOA for as long as required".

Speaking in this report are Second Lieutenant Mohammed Essa, Major Anna Kirkin, Second Lieutenant Rahima, Second Lieutenant Madargul, Second Lieutenant Arifa, Major General Charlie Herbert, Colonel Qais Mangal, Brigadier General David Colthup and Armed Forces Minister Mark Lancaster.

Should we just laugh at the British for this show now?

Show them the basics and start by shaping berets.

Nice to see the government is more than happy to back the Afghan army with long term commitment while they gut the British army destroying centuries of tradition. And they wonder ignorantly why army recruiting is at an all time low....

I sure hope they're vetting these Afghans properly. Too many 'green on blue' incidents occur over there.

Very noble of course and my very best wishes to all UK Forces always...having said that, 'You can't fix stupid'. Good luck with that...

So give it a good 100 years until the UK is finally out of Afghanistan.

those afghan officers really need to take better pride in their uniforms, their berets were terrible, their jackets looking like they just came out of the laundry with wrinkles, epaulets messed up, and poorly taken care of, and their ties were haphazardly done with the shirts underneath frankly dismal. The afghan military is just sad, and it'll take the brits much longer than they think to actually get that military under control.

Nice to see all the comments "waste of time"... A reminder that over 300 of our own troops laid down their lives in Afghanistan, to stop radicalisation and with the overall goal of developing the country. Yes, the ANA has soldiers which are less than ideal, but it's a long-term effort which will eventually pay off.
Stop being so short-sighted and selfish, if we can say in 10 years time that Afghanistan has developed into a decent country, we'll have met our goal.
